Routing of Amp Power Wire

I was wondering what amplifier power cable routing path you guys used to install your new amplifier. I installed a JL Audio XD600/6 amp in the existing location as the OEM amp. I could run it up the left side and along the front of the trunk and then down to the battery which basically follows the path of existing wiring. Another path is much shorter and just runs along the rear of the trunk to the battery.

I just used the oem power cable, via the technics harness.

Really??? That is not a 4 guage wire. And I think the power comes from the head unit.

I dunno. But it appears to power my jbl ms8 fine.

I'm not an expert, but I trust technic's expertise. And it sort of makes sense. That power cable was powering the oem amp, which while not beefy, still draws something more than what I would expect a head unit to output.

But as I say, I don't know where the power is drawn from, really, just that it works with this aftermarket amp/dsp.

In the very particular case of the MS-8 the OEM amp 12V/25A power wire is exactly what the MS-8 requires.

Therefore, this very particular HiFi/MS-8 custom harness power and ground wire are upgraded to 12AWG as JLB suggests and thus becomes a PnP replacement of the OEM amp.

That's nice fit but how did you connect the RCA's and the speaker wires? It looks like there isn't room....

Note, I installed a XD600/6 this weekend and definitely had to run a whole new power cable for that, traditional amp wiring kit. Since I have left my OEM amp in place (fall back, in case I fubar something during an upgrade, or on a road trip), I placed it in one of the well's under the trunk floor. Not a bad fit EXCEPT it making wiring even harder.

I was just looking at this myself. I'm getting ready to install the XD600/6 in the trunk, and I've got a lot of cables to run.. interconnects from the new HU, wires to the new speakers.. This is a full install. I'm eliminating the stock HU altogether. Not planning on any dealer updates, so that is not an issue. Can't WAIT to hear how much BETTER this will sound!!
