135i brake wear?
The perf. brakes on the 135i with m sport package. Do they wear faster, slower, same rate as a typical brake pad? Anyone have some input. Had an interesting convo with dealer sa and am wondering if I'm being told truth about my wear.

You should be very skeptical about everything a car dealer says. They run a business with very high overheads. Their main objective is to transfer your money to their bank account. Educate yourself as well as you can about vehicles, operation, and maintenance.

all four brakes were completely done and needed to be changed at 50k?
it probably depends more on your driving habits then anything else. I'm sure the average driver can reach 100k (km) with fairly aggressive driving and still have some rear brake left. |

Dealer saw fit to do my front pads and rotors under the maintenance plan just shy of 50k mi. Apparently there's a TSB (34-04-16)
I'm not complaining. Generally, more aggressive pads wear faster and really wear down rotors faster. Last edited by sped3; 04-16-2017 at 08:16 PM.. |

faster. With the performance rotors being slotted they slice up the pad a bit making it wear faster. But it all depends on the driver/car. A manual will last longer than an autos brakes etc

How do you figure that? Not poking just genuinely curious.
Brake wear is entirely dependent on the driving style. If you drive the car super easy the brakes will last a damn long time. The set on my first 1er lasted over 50k as well. The set on my second (which I drive notably more aggressively) lasted about 25k. BMW interval usually estimates about 30k rear 20k front from the start or something like that.

I'm at 83k miles. Getting ready to replace them with ceramics. Screw the OEM brake dusters.

To answer your question yes I do have eyes and I do know what's left. Rather than being so condescending why don't you look at what I wrote. It was on wear rate and was curious of what others were seeing.

Even on new BMWs, you'll find the rotor surface is rather rough to the point of being grooved. Also the stock pads throw off a lot of dust. The idea is the stock pad has more stopping bite when braking from very high speeds like I guess they do in Germany?
I always remove the stock pads for something that doesn't throw off a lot of dust and mess up the look of my wheels. Are you thinking I'm not concerned with safety? Well I am seldom slowing down from triple digits. I use these for replacement pads: https://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brak...2&autoModClar= These stop my car better than the stock, they throw off very little dust, bed quickly, and don't make any noise. A tip before changing rotors. I never machine rotors regardless of their appearance. You can usually judge wear by examining the lip of each. I slap on the new pads, and if they don't make any noise and stop OK, I'm good to go! BTW, I have a set of stock pads with 50 miles of wear. I'll trade for some wheels. |

Just waiting on my replacement brakes to arrive. The 1'er has just under 80k on the odo. The rear pads probably have another 5-6k in them...the fronts could go another 10-12k. I went with ECS rotors 2-piece slotted/drilled fronts / slotted/drilled rears, and Carbotech pads.
