ER competition oil coolers on 1M clone

Hi

Does anyone have the ER competition oil coolers installed on their 1M clones?

I had these fitted to my 135i running with Apex 8j Aero7s and they cleared the arch liners without any problem, only issue was the outer corner oil elbows pushing the arch liner outwards.

Now that I've gone down the 1m conversion, being wider fenders, the oil piping clears without an issue, but going up to 9.5j et22 arc8 with a yoko ad08r 245 front tyre, the oil coolers catch when turning the steering wheel anything more than half lock.

Looks like the oem style bracket needs working on, and wondered if anyone had come across this issue?

Thanks

Unlikely since 1Ms have an auxilliary coolant radiator on the driver's side.

Yep, hence mentioning 1Mclone.

Any 1M owners track their cars and gone with bigger oil or water coolers?

Can you modify the brackets for the ER cooler to sit more forward? are you on a 245/40/18 on an 9.5x18 et22? I run 265/35/18 r888 on 9.5x18et25 without any rub. My car has a transmission cooler where the 1m runs their aux radiator.

I'm currently running a 32-row Setrab oil cooler together with an Improved Racing 215 F remote thermostat. I also replaced the stock radiator with a larger capacity Mishimoto unit.

How did that Mishimoto rad fit Neil? Have you had any issues with it?

Fit surprisingly easily. No issues.

Yes, 245/40/18 ad08r with a 9.5et22 arc8 and it still rubs. I did originally try 265/35/18 but that didn't even make it half turn.

R888 is a very square tyre! Are you also running aftermarket suspension? I'm on KW v3s too.
Am going to look at if I can move the brackets any further or get some custom brackets welded up.

Thanks Neil, any pics available? Interested to see what you did to the arch liners.

Thanks

Other than cutting in some "louvers" into the passenger side wheel well liner to vent the air passing through the oil cooler, no other modifications were needed.

And no modifications were needed whatsoever for the radiator.

My tires have plenty clearance. I am on Ohlin Club Sports.

The 1m liners are larger than the 135i ones and perhaps you just need to modify your brackets to pull the cooler and shrouding back.

Also, turner makes steering rack limiters which may help you if you have a tiny bit of contact at lock after adjusting the coolers. Normally they are used to limit your steering at lock to protect your brake ducting hoses but they could assist you in your situation.

How low is your car?

It's not as low as that!
I'm running alittle more than -2degrees camber all round too.

Wasn't aware of the turner steering rack lock.. will check it out.
I think the 1m/e92 m3 also has a shorter steering rack than the e9x/e8x too

Took the coolers completely apart, and adjusted the holders and brackets completely in the most forward position. This has given enough space not to catch the tyres on full lock now.

Will try a 35 profile tyre next time round to get alittle more space.

(updating thread for anyone else in the future).

I installed the ER competition oil coolers last weekend on my 135 -> 1M conversion car and ran into the same issue with the OEM Style 359 wheels (255/35R19 Michelin PSS). Were you able to figure out a solution?

No worries, glad it helped, they clear now, but gotta cut more of the arch liner now, as lowered it even more, and catches the liners on full lock..

Sorry to thread jack, but I have a simple question. What intercooler are you using? I have a Wagner stepped intercooler and I'm wondering if anyone is running a stepped FMIC with the Mishimoto radiator. An alternative question would be... Does the additional width of the Mishimoto unit push back into the engine bay, or forward toward the bumper. Thanks.

Yes, I'm also running a stepped Helix intercooler, shortly to be replaced by a custom Motiv Motorsport design.

I wanted to update this thread as I finally got around to installing my front inner fender liners on my 1M clone. Once I adjusted my oil coolers to the forward most position, I was able to eliminate the tire rub! However, I ran into an issue tonight where the air curtain plastic cover on the inside of the 1M bumper cover contacts the ER coil cooler ducting when trying to install the bumper cover. This pushes the fender liner rearward in the car and causes liner to tire contact. Anyone else have this issue?

Also, has anyone cut the front fender liners around the back side of the ER ducts? Any pictures of where you made your cuts would be greatly appreciated!

Nice one, sk8fe has a pic of the cut outs on the fender side.

He also had to trim alittle cutout on the frontside of the bumper ducts, which channel air towards the outside of the wheels.
