I hate 'P' Platers...
Well I have had my first accident in the 135i. First accident in my life I technically caused too. Was coming up to a set of lights and there was a pulsar ahead of me who decided that it was a good place to stop when the light had JUST turned orange. No idea how he even stopped, but he was maybe 1/2 or 3/4 car length past the line when he did. I slammed on brakes, but didn't stop in time. I was slowing anyway but he gave me less room and I hit him. Car is driving fine, but the front bumper has been pushed back maybe 1cm or so, cracked grille and scratches. He said he wasn't sure why he stopped, thought he had enough room... But I guess it was my fault anyway. ps- No offence to any P platers here! Last edited by BBK; 05-21-2010 at 01:24 AM.. |

If he's stopped over the line, technically he's stopped in an intersection, as well as stopped without reason. Point that out to your insurer that he stopped in the intersection on a yellow, and they'll pin it on him.
Best of luck, sorry to hear about your car. Just last night i was heading into the city for a beer with a mate, and had a green P Plater in a Daihatsu Charade fang it down a 24 hour bus lane, about 100m before it merged into mine. I quickly dropped 2 gears (4th to 2nd), and then he proceeded to tail gate (on a 3 lane road!) for a kilometre. Wanker.. And i gave him the signal too Think i also told him to get a real car when i turned off |

Similar accident happen to me.. hummm.. 18yrs ago. I was still on my P. The driver in front woke up from a micro sleep and slam on his brake. He stopped in time for the red light.. with 3~4 cars length to spare
My 318i dive under his rear bumper. At the end, I still have to pay for his repair bcos nrma said I should keep enuf stopping distance. |

in the eyes of the insurance company it's pretty hard to absolve yourself of blame for hitting someone up the rear.... I somehow think a 135 should stop MUCH better than any Pulsar too.

Agreed, I have no idea how he stopped. The road was slightly damp, and I swear I heard my tyres slide and didn't feel the ABS kick in.

ARGH that looks painful. Good thing I got off my Ps otherwise I'd be getting a bad name :P
Mate, you might as well tell the insurance company the dude was over the stop lines. Sure you have no actual proof but if he agrees to it then you win. There's no punishment for trying

Richard, sorry to hear about this ugly incident with your pride and joy. Do you have an insurer that will allow you to nominate your preferred repairer?

Yeah Warren they allow it. Just got a quote from BMW for the performance front bumper... $3900!?!?!?! Apparently you need splitters which cost $6** each?
Guess I will stick with the standard bumper. |

^ need splitters my arse! sounds like theyre trying to squeeze you for cash. i got the performance bumper put on in replacement of my m front bumper, price diff was about 400 (but i think the 135i needs special air ducts?)
can they not minus the price of the m bumper off the performance bumper? |

Considering you're paying the excess, you may as well jump onto the perf bumper.
ie: You pay excess, body shop orders perf bumper, you pay difference between normal + perf bumper. |

Yeah it needs air ducts and new grilles for some reason? Either way the grille needs replacing anyway. They quoted me something like $1500 just for the bumper! Standard was $600 odd.

$1544 for front bumper $772 for front air duct kit $693 x 2 for performance splitters?! $113 x 2 for grilles Do they think I'm stupid? |

Sorry to hear about the accident. BMW Body Shop has always done a great job. May be you should buy the bumper elsewhere?

Sorry to see that you've had damage to your beautiful car mate.
From riding motorcyles for years i've learned that you must expect anything from any vehicle. Riding or driving behind any vehicle i'll always adjust my speed and always try to expect that they may brake at any time. |

Bugger dude!
Good luck with the repairs! It is only a car, and good to hear you or anyone else wasn't hurt.
