Yeah the meter-jerks in our fine cash-strapped city, now have the power to nail you for no front plates even if they are displayed in your front windshield and if you still have time on the clock. Don't get me started on now stupid it is to continue monetizing parking to the point where nobody comes downtown anymore, but if I had my druthers all these people in City Hall would be put into a bag with a wild animal and thrown into the river.

US Millworks

After staring at pictures and reading reviews of multiple front license plate mounting options, I'm likely to just have the stocker drilled into the front bumper. It never bothered me on any of my other cars, until joining and reading 1addicts!

Anyway, I wanted to plug the customer service and response I received at US Millworks (mentioned earlier in the thread). A simple e-mail inquiry from me generated a whole bunch of good will -- their response (basically bending over backwards and wanting to do everything possible to guarantee I was happy with fitment and appearance) was really impressive. AND, the product looks sturdy and well-designed.

In the end, the CP-E sits a little higher than I want, the US Millworks sits a bit too low, the Rho-plate doesn't back the entire license plate ... none were exactly what I wanted.

btw, cp-e has 20% off sale till 28th, time to get the hook for me, just in case, people do notice the car is without the plates right away mainly because the front is so aggressive... still a lot of money for something I am hoping to never use, but hey, 20 bucks savings will make it easier for me to leave with it in the trunk

How do you guys prevent someone from stealing the bracket and the plate when all you do it twist it off?

I realize they could always just steal the plate but that takes a screwdriver and some time. This is a $60 to $100 item sitting there. The car brings so much attention that my worry would be someone would notice the different plate bracket and take it for themselves.

I don't think you really have anything to be worried about in Kirkland

I don't get the rationale...
It's necessary to comply with the law so you're willing to sacrifice the looks by putting an ugly front plate that's off center?
Why not just put one that is on center?

I ordered the US Millworks and installed it once my plates (finally) arrived. Quite happy with it. Very sturdy. I ended up mounting it so that the plate occupies the space to the center of the towhook, rather than off to the side. I was going to just drill the bumper and install the stocker, but by the time I decided, the clearbra had already been installed.

For some reason I don't find it too offensive -- I think it's less disruptive to the symmetry of the car vs. off to the side. I'm still not sure how to answer mswaz's question, though. Red loctite would do it but then I'd never be able to remove it.

Talk me out of it..

Guys, I'm so close to just having the dealer install the plate with the normal bracket. I just think the off set ones look like they are aftermarket (ok, they are), although that Rho one does look nice.....

Honestly, I think it's fine. I was going to go that route after staring at pictures of 1Ms with the factory bracket. However, I got the PPF installed before drilling in the bracket, so that kind of forced the tow-hook "solution".

rho plate is very nice but the screw that holds the plate to the mount that goes into the bumper sucks. It strips very easy.

Sorry to hear that. Some people... Was yours easy to screw on and off? I know mine is pretty much impossible to take off by hand but i guess if someone really wanted it they'd find a way.

I could tell they wanted the rest of the bracket, they stripped the socket...so that will be stuck there until I have time to drill it off :S.

I am just going to mount it to my bumper, the drill holes are already there.

I don't know why I think this is funny, but I do. I heard that Steve Jobs was OCD about symmetry. I personally like the off center look. I have the CPE, but never mounted it, it is really heavy weight.

Haven't had a ticket yet though. I figure I will mount it just as soon as I get a ticket or get around to it, which ever is first. I would have more of an issue with drilling holes in the bumper than the symmetry. I have it on good authority that a ticket is only $22.

I got the US Mill Works setup and am very happy with it. Several people have commented on how cool the off-center look is. The car is unique, so the front plate may as well be, too.
