Stock DP on n55.... There is no performance reason. It's a turbo car less back pressure is good! My car is faster without the resonator I think it was too restrictive and inhibiting performance

Thus, I had the resonator removed from the RPi and instead they fabricated a magnaflow Y Pipe into its place!

Honestly the diffuser fitment is terrible... I have a new one on the way. The one on there is the louiellp one from eBay. The new one is the BMWP quad replica from mod bargains and appears to be significantly higher quality! Stay tuned for pictures of that installed on Friday!!

I am awaiting a couple quotes on this setup. Eloy from RPI seems to really dislike Magnaflow and recommended Burns Stainless, not sure of the difference. I will update with exhaust quotes soon.

Yea but at the end of the day the results are the same.... It makes no difference. He doesn't like that it's a stamped piece but it simplified the install and since it was an idea not certain to work I went the most cost effective route! More than likely we will sell this one and have a custom v pipe fabbed when all is said and done!

Got a price from a local exhaust shop... well not exactly local, about 45 mins away.

We can make the stainless delete pipe and y-pipe for your BMW for $420.00. We allways prefer to the job on the car if possible and woulkd need it for about half of the day.

I then asked what the price would be if I supplied the Magnaflow Y-pipe and V-band Clamp and Flange

If you supplied the Y-pipe and flange it will cost you $310.00 that includes the mandrell bends, tube and labour.

$420 seems a bit excessive and they haven't specified what kind of steel, so I assume the cheap stuff. Also, if I supply $200 worth of parts to cover Y pipe, v-band clamp and flange, they are asking for $310 to cover labour and 2 pieces of steel pipe.

I was hoping the price would be more competitive but I will take my time and shop around now. These guys seem reputable but their price seems average.

Do they realize how small of a job it is?

I have sent the workshop photos of the original RPI Y pipe on the first page along with photos of your custom fab Y pipe too. They know exactly what's involved. They said the $420 is polished stainless steel so it should look the same as the RPI but I still think it's a bit over the top. I think a fair price is $300 maximum. Have not had a chance to shop around just yet.

Honestly unless you have a show car in which you are showing the underside of the car... The matching stainless is WAY overkill. I opted for standard t304 stainless "unpolished" steel which is significantly less expensive in fact the shop charged me $20 for it. This was something I was hoping and gambling for it to possibly work so spending significant dollars to make it match when I am not sure it will work was a waste of money. It's up to you my friend!

I'll ask them for a new quote with unpolished steel. I doubt the price will come down by much though.

How would you describe the drone pre and post install? I would rate the drone as 1/10, what is it like with the resonator delete?

Also, how would you compare the differences in volume at idle, cruising and WOT?

I'm not worried about drone because I've come from a muffler delete which I loved, just need to convince myself that this mod is worth doing. I agree with you that the polished steel is unnecessary.

Drone is maybe a 3 after the mod. I don't find it annoying or obnoxious at all rather it just sounds like you are driving a performance sports car. Hmmm weird that IS what I am driving lol

It's a beautiful symphony of sound each time I drive and I absolutely love it!!

As for idle it's the same as the golf t mod for volume.... WOT is glorious and you actually hear the engine growl even at higher rpms. It sound a lot like an m3 (v8) with a BMWP exhaust. That's what my enthusiast buddies tell me.

Stock -1
Golf T Mod-4
RPi-3
RPi with y pipe-5 at WOT otherwise 3-4

I'm not too worried about drone as long as it's not overbearing and you would have mentioned that if it was a problem. I should have been more specific, I had AR DP's + N54 mids + AA axel back muffler delete. It sounded badass but it did drone and it was more pronounced with the DP's. Only reason I sold the setup was for the quad look.

Thanks for summing that up. Only thing I disagree with is the Golf Tee Mod. I couldn't tell any difference when I did that with my full stock setup. You've managed to convince me to do this mod though, hope it does sound like an M3 V8 wth Perf Exhaust! The standard RPI sounds pretty good at 6000rpm but I want a bit more sound in lower and mid range rpm. Plus it doesn't burble/crackle as much as I'd like, hoping this will do that.

Heard back from the exhaust shop and they said "the polishing part of the job is only a coule of minutes work at the end so it does not really effect the cost".

May suss out 1 or 2 other reputable shops to compare price before I book the car in somewhere. This shop seems capable but they are also on the other side of town, plus the price seems average.

Some folks do say the golf t mod doesn't help much but for me it made my car pretty loud! Possibly due to my PPK?
