New to the forum...
Greetings, everyone... Just picked up a 2008 135i convertible with 36K miles... Beautiful car - red with beige leather... New the world of BMW, so I know I have a lot to learn...
The only thing I've found wrong is the little plastic cover on the right rear that retracts when the top goes up and extends to cover the hole when the top goes down... A small post on one side of this piece is below the slot it supposed to be in, and as a result, the cover doesn't easily extend when the top goes down (due to the added friction)... I looked to see if there was enough play to reseat the post in it's slot, but doesn't look like it... Any thoughts about what I can do short of taking it to the dealer? Thanks, Matt |

you should be able to open that plastic cover easy with one finger and when you let it go it should snap back. if it doesnt open that easy then i would take it in to have it look at. good luck and welcome to the forum...

Welcome to the forum. My little top down plastic hole cover thingy stopped covering its hole on the driver side this winter. I don't know how to fix it. I can close it manually, but I haven't looked too carefully at it because the weather hasn't exactly been convertible-friendly. There is a little gear and motor mechanism in there that probably costs $2500. I looked for the part on Tischer but didn't find it there either. When I start to take this seriously I will let you know how I fixed it.

Here's what I'm talking about...
So here are a couple pics:
the left side is correct - the post is sheathed in a white collar and sits in the groove... The right side is incorrect - the post has been dislodged from the groove and sits underneath the channel it's support to ride in... Any idea how this is corrected? |

hmmm.. That exact same thing is happening to me. I just push it closed with my hand. I didn't know that's what the problem was! I'll take a closer look when the weather is warm enough to put the roof down and I'll get back to you. But it just looks like some leverage would help get that back into place. But the other side has that white "wheel" looking thing. How come the right one doesn't?

I tried to muscle it, but there's practically no give in the side piece, and I certainly didn't want to break anything... Hoping there's a simple fix...

Thanks - and fixed it!
Thanks for the welcome...
I took a closer look at things this afternoon, and I saw that a star screw hold the piece onto the chassis... I loosened it, and that was sufficient to give the cover enough play so that I could pop the post back in the slot... Doesn't have the white sleeve over the post (I imagine that's intended to reduce friction?), but it certainly frees the cover up to slide, and it also raises the cover so that it's flush with the surrounding panel... Glad that's done - as far as I can tell, everything else on this car is perfect... :-) |
