The way I see it, the prevailing "logic" in this thead is that all would-be M3 owners are stupid because they spent too much and don't need the extra power when a 325 would do.

The way my logic goes is that all the "my car purchasing choice is smart, yours is dumb" is pretty stupid. Drive and buy what you like and enjoy it! They are all wonderful machines.

Maybe I missed something, I don't think anyone called 330i owners stupid. I DID read a lot of initial threads saying this guy made a mistake in choosing the 325i over the 330i.

Obviously, people are going to be defensive when they are told they made a wrong choice in the tens of thousands of dollars.

My only point was to show what a great value I think my $33k 325i is.

Is my logic stupid?

When I started this thread, I don't believe I questioned why anyone would buy a 330i. My point was to see if there were others here thinking the way I am. I love to drive fast and tend to drive my cars pretty hard. I love the history of BMW and the fact that you can "feel" the quality engineering in every aspect of the car.......from the sound of the door closing to the feel of the sport seats to the feel of a good downshift going into a turn.......it just feels right. After reading so much about the 2002ti (which definitely wasn't about HP), seeing it at the Bimmer Museum, and regularly passing one on the street near my house, I just feel that a 325i ZSP is the closest thing to what I'm looking for. Hell, if the 320d was available in the US (I've driven the 525d and it was sweet), I'd go for that in a heartbeat. Along those lines, if the 1 series sedan comes to the US before I'm ready to order, I'll likely jump on that. It all comes down to what's right for you.

zz25, since you won't be back till next year, speculation has it that 330 would replace the 325 and 335 would be the new 330 what would you do then... or even the coupe???

Too funny. LOL. I can't see them ditching the 325i after only one model year. I don't see planning this far out as a big deal. We're only talking one model year at most, depending on when I order during summer '06. But that's what I love about this board........I just got about 30 people to happily discuss (rip apart) a car I am buying next year. Where else could you find that?

I somehow think even in a 325i if you get near the limit of the engine you'll be doing a good 125mph
Oh thank you for that consolation that we should be able to at least do 125 in our lowly 325...sniff. Actually Car and Driver posted the top speed of the 325 @ 147mph (when equiped with sport susp/ speed rated tires).

Also, IMO the 325 is a heck of a value when in the low thirties, though frankly I would not pay $40k for 3 series. I have choosen used 5 series in the past as they are simply wonderful cars second-hand and NEVER thought I would buy a new BMW.

But for $32k I have a new car that while a little less roomy than a 5, has a better power to weight than an '03-'04 530, better fuel economy, tighter handling, nicer looking interior with simply a less upmarket image I can live with.

BMW may drop the 325 Coupe, since the turbo engine (335) is supposedly debuting there.
