Insurance Renewal!!

Such an annoyance - like everyone else my premium increased by $200 each after it's a year old (both cars!).

The reason - they now automatically covered under 25s!!!!

If my insurance is not less than what it was after I unticked all the options that I didn't have last year - I am going elsewhere.

Keep switching around year to year if the premium goes up unexpectedly - most companies carry over no claim bonuses so there's no loss from doing this.

Allianz will be the cheapest for me this year. My renewal is due in 2 months; and have been shopping around.

Quotes range from ~$1,450 (Allianz) to $3,750 (Bingle, lol).

This includes
- Driver under 25 years old
- Windscreen
- Hire car in all events
- Excess of $600 ($550 with Allianz).

So, my choice is clear - Allianz have a great reputation and I have dealt with them before (they were the insurer of a previous accident i had not at fault and they even contacted me to make sure I was happy with the repairs - and they were the OTHER persons' insurers!).

So, congrats to Allianz who get my business

Mine was $3031.10 last year from AAMI $800 excess as well. Hopefully that'll go down this year after I did their 'safe drivers course' and the fact that I'm off my Ps.

I have 3 policies with AAMI. Last yr was about $700 - $800 for the 135 vert can't quite remember. This yrs renewal they wanted $1200 despie no claims EVER and having multiple policies. I rang them up to complain and said i would go elsewhere if they couldn't lower the price. The guy on the other end was a complete douche bag, didn't care despite risk of losing 3 policies and long term customer.

I went on line, through AAMI, and got quoted $658!!! The market value was lower than the renewal market value but makes no difference as car is only 1 year old and they have a new for old policy for cars up to 2 years old. Excess was $500. Obviously I renewed on line.

Seems that every year I have to do this as talking to these people is a complete waste of time. They seem to have no power to match their own on line prices even for long term customers, with excellent records who never claim. Even risking losing customers.

Double check the new-for-old replacement.

Most insurance companies cap it at 30,000km, in VERY fine print. have a read over your PDS to check, just to be sure.

Who pays monthly? I've always been an annual guy - prefer to lay it out and be done with it for a year.

X5mad: did you cancel your old policy with them for the 135i vert before getting a new quote online and purchasing it?

I am also with AAMI and I got a quote online for $523 which is a lot less than the $700+ I am paying now.

No, I just let the old one run it's course and did a new policy online a few days before it was due.

I felt that I did not owe them anything so did not waste my time in calling them up to say that I would not be renewing with their current offer.

Hi Alex..
Just got back from Vegas this morning.

In regards to Allianz, just read their disclosure statement. They where around $250 cheaper than GIO this year for me, but after closer inspection of the policy noticed a "$2500 additional EXCESS" for "damage caused by theft"..Remained with GIO..

I just arranged insurance for the 135i I'm about to pick up - went with GIO @ $1700 / year including business use (driver under 30).

I used to use Shannons but their premiums keep going up and their valuations keep going down. Shame.

Welcome back Joe! Hope it was a good trip I'm sure it was

I certainly will check that. I had my Subarus with GIO since i started driving, and considering they were #2 in terms of price for what I wanted in my cover, if Allianz have that $2,500 excess then i'll check GIO again.

Cheers!

Hope this helps someone -

Playdo (1) and the Mangled one (2) came up for renewal with a very well known ex government insurance co:

Renewal "Offer"
1: $945
2: $1281

After shopping around, then phoning afore mentioned well known co:

Customer "Retention Offer"
1: $792
2: $1095

Amount saved = >$300

Note - Excess, all T&Cs etc remained unchanged!

Postscript:

135 sum insurred increased from $72K to $77k (long story) and premium is less than last year - go figure!!

Moral of the story - Challenging a renewal can yield 12% saving!

Hope this inspires someone to pick up the phone :-)

Thanks for that. I was inspired to call NRMA and they were $19.18 cheaper than BMW Insurance, BUT NRMA's excess was $300.00 instead of $500.00

Pointless, I agree. What got up my nose (in a virtual sense) was that this was the insurer I have been loyal to for 10+ years. Had bought my policies "on-line" but new "on-line" customers got a massively bigger discount than exisitng "on-line customers.

In other words, disloyalty has its rewards! This was a point lost on the call centre person, but gave me a discount not to walk.

Hmmm.... Shannons, who I've patronised through 10 years and 2 MX-5's won't insure the 123d convertible, because it's worth too much! Allianz & GIO are currently offering the best on-line deals.

Shannons, who insure my bike, would not originally insure my 135 for the same reason. Mind you, if it was a 40 year old GTHO worth $500K they would... They now will, but they're more expensive than most others.

Odd, I've had my 135i insured through Shannons from day 1 for an agreed value I needed in the event of a total loss (and including my Perf extras)

What gives here I wonder? Especially since Tim's and my car have a very similar fitout.

crazy, I just signed up with them a few weeks ago with the 135i and I live in a crap suburb and park my car in a carport!

it must be other factors like age and location.
