Flat tire warning light
Hi everybody,
Yesterday while driving my flat tire warning light came on but only the red indication in the middle screen, but not the yellow lamp that's also part of the cluster. I pulled into a gas station checked all the pressures, i had one wheel at ~20psi and the other 3 at ~35. I pumped that one up and tried to reset the light but the system wont reset. I've tried holding the button for 5 seconds in order to reinitialize the system as well and nothing happens. Has anyone had this issue? Could the problem be a bad sensor? Any help is appreciated. Chris. |

It will reset itself but it doesn't happen right away. You should keep an eye on that tire. It may have a nail in it.

I carry a Viair 70p compressor so I don't have to visit gas stations. If you get one, get the battery clip on connection. Together it should be around $50.

Hey Deetow/Chris... what happened? Was the sensor bad? Did a bunch of driving around fix the problem?
My guess is that the system would not reset due to the leak. Even when you refilled the tire, the pressure started dropping again and the sensor continued to send the warning message to your dash.

Turns out holding the button down for 5 seconds is not sufficient to reset the system. you need to hold it down for ~8 seconds. So in the end it was user error, which I'm OK admitting because it means no expensive repair =)

To reset with iDrive, you push reset, then you need to drive off . After maybe 30sec of driving it will reset. It's using the rotation of the tire to help determine the pressure.

The button on the end of the turn signal stalk...for those of us without iDrive! The thumb switch on the stalk face scrolls you through various Set/Check items, and pushing the button takes you into that item. In the case of the TPMS reset, you push in the button and hold it for several seconds and release it, and it will then say "resetting". Drive off and after a minute or two (or a mile or two) the yellow tire light will go out.
