Will the 135i get 7 gear DTC gearbox?

The new 335i have 3 gearbox options , either a 6 speed manual, a 6 speed auto or a 7 speed Dual Clutch Transmission. Anybody know if the 135i is going to get that option? cause now we only have 2 option Auto or manual

I would personally stick with manual as well... But I'm sure BMW is considering it because of the "cool" factor of having DTC in their cars. Same thing with the e46 M3 SMG, that was pretty sweet lol.

But yea Jurrian I feel you on the E46 SMG M3.... I even got to drive a E46 Supercharged SMG M3 that thing was friggin sick!

I checked the US BMW website and the German one , and none have the DCT option for the 335i weird ? isn't it suppose to be an available option?

edit: it has to be ordered with the M sport pack on German website

I guess I will have to check in January and see if they add the option , my 135i will have a march production . I would love to have DCT on it.

I don't think it will. There are few things that separate a 1 series from a 3 series. The 3 series is supposed to be a little bit more upscale and I think they will intentionally not offer the DTC on the 1 series. I think there would be less of a market for it anyway.

I don't know why anyone would get anything other than a stick in a tiny little car like the 1 series, but thats me. If you want the automatic (or any version of it) get a big old 5 series and a chaueffer (sp?) while you're at it.

Not really. Some non-M E46s did get a simplified version of an SMG, as did some E60s, E63/64s and E85s. It was also known as an SSG, and while it was an automated manual transmission, it did not have the sophistication or adjustabilty of the M3's SMG.

Personally I felt it was a horrible compromise--not much more performance than the contemporary steptronic box, not nearly as much involvement as a 6-speed manual, and not as smooth as either in manual or automatic modes. Throw in a little added quirkiness, non-existent marketing and the development of a superior DSG by VAG, and you can see why the technology was orphaned so quickly.

Back on topic... This time it looks like BMW has decided to offer an M transmission in non-M cars (at least in some markets), as opposed to developing a separate transmission. I don't know if it makes sense for them to bring it to NA, however: there are significant EPA certification costs, and it's an open question if consumers will pay $2700 for a transmission (assuming they charge the same price as in the M, and I can't see any reason why they would charge less).

USDM E36 328s and M3's shared the same ZF transmission.

Yes, USDM E36 M3s were special in a number of ways. In that case, however, I think it would be more accurate to say that the M3 got a non-M transmission (and not that the 328 was the beneficiary of an M gearbox).

the wait for clutch packs and transmission control units will make thatrs experienced by early 335 ownefor HPFP seem like a blink.
