No idea how to fix it. Try opening it up, it's not as comfortable to rest your elbow on, but mine doesn't creak when it's open. Dealership won't fix it either unless it becomes ridiculously creaky. Mine didn't do this for over 3 years, until my girlfriend leaned her whole body weight against it and loosened it up. Now it drives me crazy.

...bitch.

Dude! Mine was doing the same thing a month or two ago. Took to dealer, lubed the center console first, didn't help, took it back and some part was worn out in there, and they had to special order a new center console section, and it came in and they swapped it out for me. It was under warranty.

Mine's creaking whenever any kind of pressure is put on. If you don't touch it, it's fine...

Agree with all above - annoying!

Any idea what the part was? Since mine stops creaking when it's open, I imagine it's something with the latching mechanism. I'm gonna bring it up when I go back (for the 4th time) for vibrations when turning the steering wheel.

Let me see if i can find my paperwork and see if it says what was replaced on it. They had to order the part from Germany and it took like a week or two to get in.

Yup, mine too. Only when you are resting your arm on it. I'm glad it isn't doing the full creaking, drive me nuts.

I don't think BMW will replace it under warranty unless it is creaking without pressure being put on.

BMW did a poor design on the center armrest and why would you want to DIY to fix the problem when BMW is aware of the matter.
I had the same problem and after several trips to dealer and they can't fix it driving me absolute crazy.
Thanks BFD99 for sharing the repair experience.
