nitto invos: a few questions

for some reason i've always wanted a set of invo's and i think its a great idea for any staggered setup but i'm slightly confused as to why tire rack has never offered them. also they do not carry a ton of sizes and i was curious to see if 245/40/18 would be alright to run in the rears? i know tire rack recommends 245/35/18 but they only offer that size in 19". i dont know a whole lot about wheels and tires and such so any information is greatly appreciated.

I think the 40s might rub, you might wanna stick with a 35. I have 245/40 on 17s on the rear and they rub from time to time over bumps. Hopefully, Gill will shed some light on your issue.

I don't recall Tire Rack ever carrying Nittos. I believe (with all apologies to our Tire Rack friends) that Discount Tire carries them.

The Invos are available in 225/40 and 255/35 from "that other on-line store store" (sure wish Tirerack would start carrying Nittos). This size would allow you to keep the stock wheels though your speedo would be about 1-2mph off. These is VERY little offered in our factory sizes of 214/40 and 245/35

There are much better tires for the same money. I think of the INVO as a tire for Aston Martins and Bentleys and other "soft" driving cars. Nate

^^interesting..though i wouldnt say the 1 series is any "harder" of a driving car..maybe a little. any recommendations? i want something that i can take with me to an occasional autocross event and something that can withstand florida 4PM monsoons. i'll be spending the next year or so down there. i had kdw's and they worked well but the road noise when i was half way down with them was unbearable.

I'd start on Tire rack and see what's available in the size(s) you want. Read the reviews of those tires and find something that you think meets the expectations you have. Then research on-line for reviews of those tires you like. My experience is that you can talk to 10 people and get 10 different answers/reviews thus finding as much info as possible from multiple sources lets me make (or at least feel like I am making) a more informed choice based upon my specific needs. Tires are a very individual purchase but research and talk to as many people as possible. For the weather in Florida, you can probably get away with a max performance summer tire (though you would need to find the balance between tire wear/grip/wet weather traction that you want). I am really surprised to hear that. We just put a set of INVOs on our 335 and it is our first experience with Nittos. They perform extremely well in the dry (we have yet to test them in the wet) and would not consider them a soft tire. They are comfortable but definitely performance oriented if that is what you are looking for.

if i can ask..where did you test them to find their dry performance? also what are the sizes that you ran on the 335? are those wheel sizes similar to the 135?

I personally like the falken azenis 615 great for track abuse and street driving. Not recommended for any kind of winter driving. Also they are cheap.

I absolutely love my INVOs. They ride great, and since I lowered the car they have made the ride feel a little softer than the RFTs, but not much. The traction is great and they are extremly quite. Best price found was Discount Tire Direct....not Discount Tire online. Same website basically, different cost.

Are the performance wheels the same size as stock wheels? Do you have rubbng in the back even with the 40s in the rear?

Yes the perforance are stock offset and size. I have 225/40 in front and 255/35 in rear with an H&R lower and no rubbing.

For any type of auto-x work I would look at the RT-615's, Dunlop Z1's, Bridgestone RE-01R's, Advan Neovas, Hankook RS-212 (sp), and the like. You should be able to get at least a summer or 2 out of each of these tires and they will put you near the top of your class in auto-x. Nate

Agreed you can not beat the Z1's....just can not get them right now. I will have a set on my black OEM rims once they are finally off 255/35 back order for tracking and auto-x. But these Invo's are a great tire and deserve a lot of credit, plus you can stagger rotate them.

Ive had 2 sets of RT 615's on my R and they are a good tire. Only downsides are that they are on the heavy side, and get squirmy fairly quickly after their hot.
