Nope. None whatsoever. Here's an older thread, but you can read more about members' experiences w/ the 225/255 setup. In one post, Gill@Tirerack suggests that this size should have been the OEM size to begin with.

I went with 225/40/18 fronts and 255/35/18 rears.

Yes, everybody gets the same aspect ratio and everything, and nobody has any problems with any rubbing or anything, even lowered and what have you on stock rims. I kinda wish I'd gone 225/255, but I was being overly paranoid about BMW trying to f me and deny any potential warranty claim down the road heaven forbid I had anything other than stock sizes. I think the 225s are actually cheaper than the 215s, too cause I'm told a 215/40/18 is a really rare size that nobody uses or carries in stock.

I found them to be about the same price in my searches over the last few weeks, but they may have been cheaper in the past. They're both much cheaper than the OEM RFTs, which was a surprise to me.

Well you're paying for all that runflat technology! =P I also assume concrete is more expensive than rubber. Don't forget the runflats also seem to last half as long. What's interesting is the pilot sport all-season 3's are rated at 45k miles I think and I know a few people have those as well, such as motorchimp.

Because they have different aspect ratios. A 225/40 and 255/35-18 have the same overall height of 25", which also happens to be the factory sizes for the e9x non-M. Our cars come with 215/40 and 245/35-18 (I think those are right) which should be around 24.7"

To calculate height, take (width x 0.039 x aspect / 100) x 2 + diameter

So 225/40-18 -> 225 x 0.039 x 40 / 100 = 3.5"

Multiply 3.5" x 2 to take into account sidewall on both sides of rim = 7"

7" + 18" for rim = 25"

Not happy - took my scuffed 313 to be fixed by the dealership (who gives the work to a wheel repair shop) who were supposedly well practiced in these new painted and machined wheels.

Go to pick it up and they painted the inside of the wheel mineral gray instead of space gray, which quite frankly looked pretty cool, but not only on one wheel. The clearcoat was hazy over the machined parts, and the orange peel on the whole wheel was terrible.

SO they have one last chance to make it OEM quality, or they will have to figure something out, like buying me a new wheel.

I blame myself. I trust my SA, and he said they do these wheels a lot and that he thinks they look good.

If it's not a basic alloy, I think the wheel repair places don't know what to do. Had the same issue with a platinum powder coated wheel. Before you ask, it's OEM, not aftermarket...

Ya, I agree and sadly I went through this. If we had normal alloys like the 261s or 264s, I think those would be okay, but due to the complexity and machined finish of the 313s, I don't know that anybody could ever get them quite right. I'd maybe let them try again, or I think 3002 tii recommended some fancy shop that has a good reputation, but if they can't get them looking normal, I'd try to get whatever you paid them in credit towards buying a new one, hopefully at cost. For what it's worth, the forum vendors sell new ones for like $375 for fronts, $400 for rears and then you know they'll be perfect. YOu just have to be careful you don't accidentally order the ones with BMW Performance written on them.

That'll be exciting. What sizes did you end up getting? 225/245 or 225/255? Or I guess stock 215/245?

Congrats on the PSS. It took gregthegr8 about 2 months of bugging me to switch to the PSS tires, and in hindsight, I should have listened to him sooner So, thanks greg!

The weather has been nicer the last few days, so I have had the IS out a bunch. IMO, the new PSS rubber is awesome. Can't wait to hear your thoughts.

Just my luck, threw on the 313s Saturday afternoon and this morning we got a surprise 4" of snow. Needless to say it made for an interesting ride into work.

It's the rears I'm curious about. You going stock 245s or going up to 255s?

5000 Miles Today

Hit the 5,000 mile mark on my way into work today. Sadly, this comes after almost 11 months.

You're way ahead of me, I'm at just over 2000 after 8 months. She didn't see many miles during the unusually chilly winter.....a problem you certainly don't have out in the fruit and nut state

Note to self: I need to drive this car more! Then the stock RFT will wear out and I can get some PSS (225/245 for me)

Man, maybe we should have just split the car. =P I don't think anyone could have predicted the hellish winter everyone seemed to get as I'm sure there are many people in the midwest and east coast questioning global warming right about now.

Why wait for the runflats to wear out? Just sell them for cheap to other forum members and switch to the PSS.

Why go 225/245 as opposed to 225/255? Just to dial out a hair of the understeer?

225/245 as I'm trying to dial out some understeer. I'd go 235/40, but I want to keep the 313 rims and 235 PSS isn't recommended for a 7.5" wheel

I think 245 square would be ideal, but to get there will require some 8.5" ET45 wheels and more suspension/fender modifications than I want to do at this point - maybe once it's out of warranty.

I don't have a ton of complaints with the Bridgestone RFT - I actually used to track my E90 using a square RFT 255 setup on factory rims. The square set-up really changed the handling and the ride was still fine, but then again, the track (Barber) was in great shape.

Maybe I'll just put the "is" tires on the E88, it'll need replacements pretty soon - it's at 9000 miles, rears are at 4/32". I was debating turning it in to get a Boxster S....but it's in great shape, has low miles, is a blast to drive, and has a reasonable residual. A decent newer and low mile P-car is going for serious coin, so I'll likely end up keeping the 1er.

Decisions, decisions.

Gotcha. I suppose you could go 225/235 to get even closer to square with the staggered rims? I am no expert. And ya, you should just sell the runflats to your wife for a huge markup to put on the vert and get the PSS for yourself. =P Ha! Or just stash them in the garage until the vert needs new tires and voila.

Tough call on that cayman S. If you keep the options low, it can be "reasonably" priced, but the options list is like a mile long and before you know it the car can easily be $80k and up. After having the PE it's hard to not want the sports exhaust on that, and $7k stereo upgrade, hmm. I imagine even in a couple of years there will be some nice ones with under 10k miles on them. I also think a potential M2 may be a slightly better bang for your back, but who knows at this point.

When are we going to see pics of everyone's 313s going back on? Must be rough to have to see your cars with winter wheels on, IEDEI obviously being the exception. =P Old man winter is afraid of him! Snow plows itself when it hears him coming down the road.

You're both smokin' me. I'm only at 1,600 since July! But the 313s are back on and our unusually hellish winter is over (knock on wood). I hope to be catching up to Bama335 soon
