2009 128i bumper and lights upgrade

Hey, Im new to the BMW scene and I started off with a 2009 128i Space Gray BMW http://www.1addicts.com/forums/bpgar...=view&id=11724. It is the best car I have owned by far, but I want to make a few modifications to it. First Im trying to change the lights to the Xenon headlights with the light accents. Also, Im trying to upgrade the bumper that has the retractable washers on it, not the ones with the horns. To get the best picture of what im trying to get, I attached a image of a 135i that has the front setup Im looking for.

My real question to you guys is, can my 2009 128i have these specific upgrades?

Yeah you can do it, just going to cost a fair bit. Headlights by themselves are over $1k. Would have been much cheaper to get them from the get go.

ya, so I've heard, but I didn't get this BMW brand new though. Got this one for a good price to get started. Now, I had it for a while, I think its time for some upgrades now that I know im a BMW fan. If i get a new BMW, I think i am going to wait for the 2 series coupe to come out. Also, thanks for the help.

You can get the non-LCI Xenon headlights (used) for around $400 each on eBay.

one LCI for $550 http://www.ebay.com/itm/11-12-13-BMW...dcdfcf&vxp=mtr

There might be coding involved after you put them in. And I used might loosely and you might need to get a ballast to make sure you don't get any warning lights on your dash even if the xenon do work. I also use might loosely in this cause.

But keep this in mind, the only reason I say this is because xenon run at a lower voltage than halogen lights do. For that reason if your car reads the wrong voltage it may display a warning light that your headlight are out.

Also I have a dinan 5 that had Halogen lights and I upgraded those to BMW Xenon lights and I need to buy ballasts to make sure I would not get any error codes. it was either that or get the car reprogram.

If you want Xenons, your best bet is to go after market with some DEPO or Sonar headlights. I just got DEPOs installed today on my 128i and I think it looks great. OEM Xenons will cost you an arm and a leg

EDIT: First, Yes they can. When I had mine put on they ignored the brake ducts and zip tied the fog lights. Looks great.

Headlights? Check this thread out:

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=809467

Bumpers? I was extremely lucky to get most of my M-Sport kit off the used classifieds here; best bet is to be patient and lurk german forums or junkyards.

I eventually found someone who swapped their alpine white M-Sport for a performance front bumper; he inevitably sold the car with the performance bumper and had the M-Sport lying around for a great price. I admit-ably got lucky because discounted BMW sites like getBMWparts sells them new for about $900USD. That's not shipped, or painted.

Get searching and good luck!! I don't ever regret the hassle and money spent wrapping my car up in M-Sport .

Yea you can, I put mine on a couple months ago. I searched endlessly on these classifieds and other BMW forums; ebay, I rang some junkyards, even called my dealer (yeah, just don't). Your best bet - if you're tired of searching - is getBMWparts. Either that or contact user dan@unitedBMW and he'll get you going on prices and any other questions (they have about the same prices - but I bought from him). So getBMWparts should give you a good reference of price; ~$550 for the bumper new, then there's freight shipping, then there's painting. It's a long road but it's worth it.

I put a 135/128 sport bumper on my daughters 09 128. It already had the fixed style headlight washers. Only problem I have is now with the "pop-up" style washers that are part of the new bumper, they don't automatically retract, rather they stay "popped-up" I can push them down and see that the lines stay full of fluid/under pressure. Not sure if it needs another washer motor to correct or what? Hardly matters as we don't do washers anyway, but do be aware....
