An estimate on my part - dealer price for parts & labor. I paid $271 about 4 years ago for belt replacement on my E46.

Ah ok. That makes sense. It's (usually) a quick change, so I'll just buy the part and do it myself.

I may replace it with the new M coupe in 5-6 years, but life changes and priority changes. Cars will always have special place in my heart and I will always love to have the latest and greatest. However there are many other wants in life, for example, would I rather spend 5k on a set of HREs or new giant screen tv? I lean towards the tv.

Well after the warranty, I'll be giving my beloved 128i to my dad. He simply loves my car. I on the other hand will be getting a faster and prettier looking coupe haha.

I usually keep a car till it can't roll anymore. Depending on what the next generation looks like I plan on keeping it.

Keeper - Hope to get about 10 years out of this car and will probably invest in an extended warranty. But you never know, the way things are going who knows what value a gas powered car will have in 10 years.

I bought the extended warranty and typically keep cars until there's nothing left in them. Unless I win the lottery, Baby's here for the long run. Heck, if I win the lottery she'll just get a more expensive stablemate.

I was thinking, This car may very well become a collector car in 10 years. Think about it, a 1970 BMW 2002 is a collectors item. I am keeping mine and It will be in mint condition. I am keeping the window sticker and every documant with the car. I truly feel that this car will be a car that will keep its worth.
So you addicts take good care of that baby. I see promis in this little jewel

N52 has a chain drive for the camshaft. Here is a link to an article with some details of it and previous BMW 6s:

http://www.mwerks.com/artman/publish...nter_960.shtml

Unless I have bad experience or something happens to my 128 I will keep it well past the end of the warranty. I normally keep cars 8-10 years. This BMW is the nicest car I have owned so I see keeping it longer than normal. But we'll see.

We were talking about the accessory drive belt, not the camshafts. Just about all BMWs use chain drive for that.

I'm only in my early twenties so I am planning on keeping this car for a very long time. However, I plan on keeping my E30 318is forever!

The longest I've kept any of my cars over the past 10 years has been 2 years and 11 months so I seriously doubt I will keep the 1 past its warranty, but I haven't seen anything else that I'm interested in lately. I used to flip cars every 12 to 18 months and am not even close to that level with this one.

I'm also not keen on owning a BMW loaded with all the tech toys after the warranty is gone. They aren't the highest ranked cars in terms of reliability to begin with and then when you remove the safety net of the warranty...

I have been driving my '93 325iS since it was new. I average less than 7500 miles a year so I will keep the 128i for a long time. I do the out of warranty service and repairs on my cars so I am not worried about the maintenance cost.

car has been in the shop for 4 times now at 12500 miles.
Going back on Monday again to change the steering wheel.

After dealer re-flashed my ecu last week I have been getting more lag and 14.1 MPG
Before this I was never been able to go under 16.8 or so.

Talking to my Service Guy these cars have a lot of issues as they are built from spare parts of others BMW and mini cars.

Even the steering wheel is slightly to the Right out the center of the seat.

It is fast but quality is shitty.

I owned 2 brand new Honda's and had them for 3-4 years, they where never in the shop - ever.

I had 5 different Golf GTD's from 1984 I to 1995 III
Never had an issue that I could not fix with a screwdriver.

And I put 200000 Kms each on two of them 89 - II and 95 III
No issues at all.

So I am totally disappointed with BMW quality.

O yeah, spilling 2-3 ounces of armor-all in the trunk storage compartment cost me 1200$ in electronic damage.

Ten years later who still has theirs? Mine's getting ready for winter. Almost 132,000 miles later and replaced as a summer DD by Z4MR AND 991.1 4S siblings but still an important member of the stable when its time to get serious work done.

Three cheers to the 1er eleven years after she rolled off the assembly line and her owners who voted on this thread and walked the talk (or drove the drive?).

Trying to decide if I should keep my 2012 135i with ~60k miles. Concerned about reliability when I get to 100k+ miles. I have always owned older cars that are easy to maintain.

What about cars being "not easy" to maintain would bother you? The amount of money, the inconvenience, or the frustration of wrenching it yourself? I always said if the combination of the first two no longer makes it more viable than selling and using the proceeds to purchase a newer car I would get rid of the car. So far that hasn't happened and I'm eyeing an Fx 340i X-drive with a manual but the two factors cited don't even come close to aligning yet

In 10 years of service the only thing that I have replaced outside of regular maintenance is rear rotors and pads, and driver's side window regulator. I will replace the battery before winter.
