UPDATE: 135i Window seal wind noise at 65 MPH +
Hello,
Anyone else have this issue? I get real bad wind noise at 65mph + at the rear of the door window glass. It almost makes me want to wear earplugs. My indy mechanic says maybe it is pressure related. I tried opening the passenger window a crack but it didn't help. It is very pronounced, and of course seems louder on the driver's side. Are the window tracks adjustable to tighten the seal? Thank you. Regards,

This doesn't sound right. How old is the car and how long have you had this problem? Did you buy your car new or used? Was it ever in an accident you know of? If it had been hit and repaired something could be slightly out of alignment. My 135i is just a few months old and tight as a drum. One of the things about the car that really impresses me is how quiet it is at speed with almost no road or wind noise. I'd have this checked out first at the dealership and if they're no help a good professional body shop.

If you leave the window partially down for a period of time when it's not very warm outside, the seal will temporarily take the shape of the top of the window, wherever it stopped. For a short while after that, you may hear wind noise from that location. It's not very noticeable when it's very hot out because the molding is very malleable but if it's a little cool out, the shape can stay for some time. Might not be the issue but it's something I've come across with mine in the spring and fall. You'll NEVER have this issue in Hawaii

Cemoto, the King is known for knowing what he is talking about...so clearly you need to move to Hawaii.

I started having this wind noise after I took my car to the dealer for the PPK install. No idea why it started after that, and it was cold outside at the time too. Tinting the windows didn't affect the noise, its still there.

How old is the car and how long have you had this problem? 2010 135i - 11K miles, one owner, no accidents. Southern Texas car now in MA. Nice car, very tight, except for the annoying wind noise. Thank you for the responses. I'm thinking about using some silicone spray on the rubber seals to see if that helps. Regards,

Make sure the window goes up about ¼ " when you close the door and it goes down ¼" when you open the door.
You can reprogram the window to learn the track or something. I had the wind noise on my Z4 and read on the Forum how to reprogram it. Did that and no more wind noise. And the silicone spray can’t hurt.

I had that issue but it's come on and gone at will. Now that i read about the window being cracked that could very well have been an issue...

Ok, it's a problem with the door seals, it's worse in winter. There are 2 cures, the first is lubing the door seals the second being repalcing the rubber. Wet the rubber and close the door you will probably see towards the back top corner of the window there is a small area where the seal doesn't touch the window... There is your air leak.

Silicone spray did not help (I sprayed it into a rag then wiped). The window does the auto drop and raise, but it is more like 1/2" - 3/4" I first noticed it when on the highway from McAllen to San Antonio - it was mid 50's that day and my first long road trip in it. I did actually put a foam earplug in about an hour into the ride. Since getting the car up here in MA the same thing occurs. Today I tried pushing out on the top rear corner of the window glass and the noise got worse, so a it is a window fitment issue. The car has always been garaged as well. Regards,

Got the same problem on my 2012 135i; I thought maybe it was me hearing things. I will try some of the fixes, and I haven't had the car on the highway in the warmer weather; I'll get a chance next week!
Thanks for the tips.

Took mine in last year for an oil change and complained about the noise coming from the B pillar on the passenger side and they replaced the seals around both doors. Seemed like the new ones had a little different texture. Bottom line it fixed the problem.

Why don't you just go 64mph?
Sorry, JK, I couldn't help myself. Maybe try some rubber rejuvenator product on the window molding? it may help.

I was hoping that installing tint on the windows would get rid of the problem before having to take it to the dealership. I guessed wrong. When I get back home I'll be taking my car to get this fixed. Glad I'm not crazy and that I'm not the only one that noticed this.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I just thought it was one of those quirks with owning the 135 due to the in accuracy of the annoying 3/4" movement/positioning of the glass upon opening and closing of the doors. I will bring this up at the dealer during my next appointment.

Today was the first time I needed to use the defroster. ( The car is new to me, it was my dad's)
It was a damp rainy day here in MA and I took the car out on the turnpike. At one point the windshield started to fog so when I pushed the defog button it automatically defaulted to full blast fan and the inside pressure really pushed the glass outward and the wind noise increased dramatically . You might expect this type of phenomenon with a vert, but not with a coupe. I'm very surprised the top edge of the doorseal does not have a slot for the glass to fit into, rather than upon. I have an appointment at the dealer next Tuesday for something else and will inquire from there. Regards,

I do not get air leak unless 125mph+ (200km/h+), but I always get a water leak in touch less carwash where there is usually a few drops of water coming in near the top of glass at the B pillar.

You should only stop the car with the windows up ans start it with the windows still up.
It appened to me a couple of month ago and I had to bring the car almost 4 times to the garage and no solution was found ... In the worst case, ask your BMW Dealer to readjust the window's joint I red a thread on this forum on this problem, I respected what it was said (what I just said to you) and I didn't have that problem anymore |
