Rear Trunk Brake Lens

I just noticed my brake light lens is cracked on the trunk, does anyone know if i'd have to replace the whole part or just the lens?

UPDATE: BMW screwed me on replacing the third brake light, said there was no bulletin and charged me $250 + $80 for diagnostic + $90 to replace a bolt on the exhaust. They said that CPO warranties only cover motor and power train and lubricated parts, every thing else is out of pocket

You have to replace the whole part. It's not very expensive at all though (~$60). But check with your dealer. There's a service bulletin out for this and you might get it replaced for free.

This I a well-known problem. Totally covered by the dealer. You would've thought they could remedy this problem by now.

I had mine replaced a couple months ago, it's a different design now with a slightly thicker lens. Was the original 3rd brake light LED lit? The new one seems considerably better looking when lit up.

Im not sure if its been replaced already though. I just got the car and the CPO warranty came with it. Also does anyone know how to tell if the car has a sport package or not, no window sticker for me to verify with

Check to see if your car has the M-sport steering wheel and sport seats. The sport seats will have an adjustable piece at the front to adjust for leg length. Also it will have an increased topspeed limiter. 155mph instead of 130 something.

Yup, M badge wheel, thicker side bolstering, leg extension...easy ways to distinguish it.

You did not state which year you have as packages can vary year to year. The m sport started in model year 09. It's was only $200 more than the sports package. Only difference was an anthracite headliner,m footrest,and 261 wheels instead of 264s.

That's weird because my 08 has the M steering wheel and shifter. I figured that was the Msport Package...

Its possible that latter model 08 could have m sport. My 09 was manufactured in Sept.08. Both m sport and sportpackage share several of the same items such as steeering wheel, shifter knob and seats. The one thing to look for is the anthracite headliner and the 261 double spoke wheels whitch comes with the m sport.The sport package has a gray headliner and 264 wheels. Sorry if I confused anyone on this matter.
