PLX Gauges - Opinions
Has anyone used or installed the PLX Universal gauges? I'm thinking about buying the Air Fuel Package plus the Boost module. Wanted to get peoples opinions about them and if anyone has used them. After talking to the PLX Dealer they assured me that it is all plug and play with the OBDII hub.

Where do you plan to mount it?
Honestly just invest in a p3 vent gauge. It'll provide more information, and have an OEM look.

I am going to have a custom pillar made for it.. i know a guy who does fiberglass work, than i talked to an upholstery shop and they said they can match the BMW pillar fabric to make it look OEM. Essentially my plan is to buy a universal gauge mount($10) fabricating it to the driver side pillar. I'm buying a separate pillar ($50-$100) so I don't touch the factory one. I like the P3 gauges but wanted to be different and i don't like the placement of the p3. I'm open for suggestions just wanted some opinions. |

I believe that in the event of an accident it would be unwise to have A-pillar gauges in a 1 series.

Not to be mean or anything. It's your car. Just my opinion.

I actually generally like the look. It can look really clean when it belongs on a car. I don't like it when it's unnecessary though.
All of that is irrelevant though because I don't want a boost gauge traveling through my face at 200+ MPH in the event of airbag deployment.

All valid points and I agree. But the placement on gauge would be lower and close to the dash compared to the Jap a-pillar gauge pods where the single gauge is higher on the pillar. It was a thought and the gauge would be more than just boost. Well see im going to talk to the fiberglass guy and see what his thoughts are. if its going to cost more than i think its worth than chances are ill go with the p3.

Jb4 stealth gauge highjacking. The best way to go. Going to try to dabble in fiberglass myself to try to make a radio delete/tablet mount so the jb4 app gauges show when wanted. Winter project.

Let me know how that turns out. do you know where your getting your fiberglass materials? I used a place online once and i was not happy with the quality. Ill have to check out the JB4 gauges. I didnt want to get into the motor mods quite yet, i have a year left on the factory warranty, trying to wait it out.

Talk to your sa at the dealership. Mine were pretty cool about me modding the car. I haven't sourced the fiberglass yet. I was hoping I'd find an easy way to just make a mold and some kind of plastic. Haven't looked into any further yet but I'm hoping I can get it sorted before winter is over. Jb4 takes over the fuel and oil temp gauge when you go past 50% throttle. Really cool features. If you plan on nodding down the road you should just jump in with that. Its going to cost more up front but you won't have pods or anything. But when you do decide to get into more power mods it's there, waiting. I see them pop up on here in the for sale section. Might be able to get a decent deal. If you need any help just let me know. Couple buddy's on here up my way would be willing to help with install.

Fyi this seems like a pretty good deal for the whole package. If you have a iPhone it will connect too. You'd have to research if it's the right harness. $475 is a good price. Not sure how much you have to spend or if you want to go that way.

Thanks my man, def appreciate that and the research. State College isnt to far, ive been plenty of time. Beaver Stadium is a fun place. Might be worth a drive soon. I was looking to reach out to the dealer as you mentioned but im in a kind of dilemma also. I just realized i can extend my warranty covering all maintenance and extended Factory warranty for 2 more years/50k costing me $1600.00. that was the money for my suspension as far as the JB4 and tuning/modding the car its def the better long term solution, but for the life of me im leaning toward one of these PLX gauges. Ill have a decision here in the next couple weeks as well. Making the mold would be tough. i reached out to a plastic company also and they said no matter what you have to buy the mold and bulk molds or else its not worth it for them. I just looked at the forsale add yesterday. |
