2011 N55 DCT on the track (Video)
I posted this video in the suspension section too, due to some minor suspension changes I was testing, but felt it is relevant to the N55 DCT crowd too.
I have not seen many on track videos of the DCT in action so I thought this might be helpful for those considering it. I am completely amazed by this tranny on the track, it is stellar. My previous car was a N54 2008 135i manual tranny, so I have a good feel for both solutions. You will want to put on a pair of headphones to hear the DCT shifts above the wind noise, enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43yRx9XXwTA Last edited by MINI135i; 12-02-2011 at 07:53 AM.. |

Nice video. I read your suspension thread, makes me want to get the RS3's since the track instructor told me my V12's are already at their limit due to my suspension & power setup. Told me it would be meaningless to do any other upgrades other than braking until I picked up new tires.
Here is one of mine, camera is exterior mounted so alot of wind noise. |

But, if you drive very hard in 90+F weather, you can overheat this tranny. When that happens, you may not be able to downshift at high RPM. Happened to me twice. First incident was minor, but second one was when i couldnt downshift from 5th gear to 4th at over 140 mph at WGI I was very fortunate that at the end of the backstraight of that track i had an option to go straight instead of going into the chicane(bus stop). Very lucky to avoid a major incident. |

Alot of the time attack tracks are out in the desert. Which means alot of rock chips and etc if someone goes off or if they go through them on the track.
