From what I understand it's only problems that may have been caused by the CDV, or whatever mod you did the car. |

I knew I joined this board for a reason - this is really great information! I too thought for some reason I just can't shift my E46 smoothly, especially between 1st and 2nd. But I thought it was my car, and not typical of all BMW's, and was hoping that my new car would not have the problem.

I'm ordering a mod CDV and will probably install stainless steel brake lines all at the same time....since they need to bleed the brakes anyway....thoughts?

The best mod for the car and only cost $100 - http://www.zeckhausen.com/CDV.htm - that's where you get the modified CDV. $35 for CDV - $65 for the machanic. Most people just remove / delete the CDV. But I choose to have it modified to look like OEM just in case BMW looks there. Although It's rare that BMW will need to look down there.

Just gave mine a test, and it seems to me that my car responds differently to a slow gentle clutch lift opposed to a swift release, therefore maybe the 318d doesn't have a CDV!

However, if you do the mod and you do have a trans problem, you should probably put the valve back in before going to get the trans looked at. Also, if you know how a manual trans and the valve works, there isn't a reason why removing would cause any damage. The valve is there to slow down the fluid to make for "smoother" shifts for those who can't drive manual properly to begin with. I HATE it. I know how to modulate my clutch for smooth to aggressive action. The valve simply interfers with proper clutch operation in my view. To E90Fleet. In the US that mod can't void the whole warranty. It can possibly void the clutch portion or even trans portion, but the manufacturer has to show that the problem being fixed was the result of the modification. |
