1M Engine Oil Capacity??????????
I have decided to do an "interim" oil and filter change.
I've read the relevant threads and intend to put Castrol Edge 0w -30 LL04 in the car. I can't find the oil capacity either in the handbook or online. please can one of you guys that have done an oil service tell me how much engine oil does the 1M need. Many Thanks |

When it jams, push down and keep turning, like you would with a radiator cap.

re: the oil filter cap... mine just screws off. You have to be careful as to not let oil spill out of it. I normally just open it most of the way... then let all the oil drain from the pan. Then I remove the oil filter cap. The filter holds alot of old oil... so I let it drip inside the housing for a bit. Then I use a turkey baster to suck out any oil left inside the housing. Make sure your O-rings are ok. The big (black)one of the filter cap and the little green one on the tip of that thing inside the cap - that runs thru the filter. You might want to check out some of my DIY pics on changing the oil and filter... First Oil Change on my 128i Convertible http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...=301440&page=2 green O-Ring... always use a pick not a blade screw driver. Always install by hand! Not with a tool that will damage the new o-ring.

I did an interim oil and filter change today myself despite low mileage, since it was already a year after the first oil change and cars that make regular short commute like mine imo need better oil more.
The 1200 mile oil change at the time was noted as 6.5 liters as BMW tells us, same with the capacity. However, today (like most people who experienced it before) I put only 6 liters then checked the oil level and the computer showed max level so I stopped there. I know that it is likely that after some miles and a long drive it may show a bit less than max and I may be adding that final 0.5 liters but I thought it is better be safe since adding oil is so easy compared to exceeding the max level and trying to fix it afterwards. If you didn't do it already and if you won't be able to calculate how much oil will drain out first before putting the new oil, I advice you the same, just check your level after 6 l. And if the same thing happens to you as well keep an eye on your level the following days.
