2010 128i misfire cylinder 3

My 1er has 47000 miles on it and thew a Check engine light. The Mil lamp then went out after the next start. I still checked the stored code anyway. I have the iNPA software on my laptop and it indicates the following cylinder 3 misfire. So I bought a new coil and replaced it today and it still seems to misfire and stumble for a split second. No MiL light but as I mentioned a few sentences above the Mil light went out and it still missed a few times.

I probably would have replaced all the coils and plugs together.

My plugs were pretty foul at 53k miles, so I did both plugs and coils. Had a misfire, car would bog really bad if I tried to accelerate too quickly. After everything was replaced, runs like a dream again.

Did you check the plug before you stuck the new coil on?

If the coil went bad, I would at least replace all the plugs at the same time. If it was my car I would just replace all the coils and plugs.

Replacing the plugs is a good idea, but the coils are over kill and expensive. With the coils, you can do a simple check pulling them off one-by-one checking for any change in the sound of the engine. No change, the coil is dead. If this isn't possible, there are other simple tests:

We used to do that here at work, replacing only the one bad coil. Customers got tired of replacing one coil and plug, drive for a month, replace another coil and plug, drive for a couple months, replace one bad coil and plug and $7000 worth of cat converters due to driving with a misfire and replace all the remaining plugs and coils.

Now we just replace all coils and plugs when one goes bad. Done.
