Clicking noise from rear of car after releasing gas pedal
When my car is cruising at around 1000-1500 rpm, if I let off the gas pedal I get this clicking noise from the rear of the car. It almost sounds like when an engine pings. If I repeat the process of giving it light throttle and releasing the gas pedal, it does it again. This is a single clicking noise unlike engine pinging where it is continuous. Any clues if this is normal? I have a 2011 128i with auto. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It could be coming from exhaust.
I went to dealer about the same problem and they said it's coming from exhaust. Mine does that around 2k rpm. I think you can find some post about this prob. There was some discussion. |

Mine only does it in gear and will do it at 1000rpm on up. I read the post on when the exhaust flap opens in the muffler at around 3,000rpm, but that is not when mine is doing this.

More than likely it is the exhaust flap. I don't think it is the rpm that really controls when the flap opens as much as the amount of throttle you put into it, but I could be wrong. Either way, I unplugged the wire in the trunk that controls the flap and I have never heard the click noise again. You can also refer to the golf tee mod as well. Either way works.
