Hi guys -

Thanks for all the information over the past two years on my 135i. I learned a bunch and had a great time reading all the posts. I've done a lease assumption on my 135i and that's about to conclude in a week or so. I've purchased a 2013 GT500, so it should be an interesting adventure with that car.

Hope to see you guys soon (probably when i get bored of the GT500 and go for a M3 or something).

Great choice.
GT500 should be a lot o fun.

I'd be interested in reading how it compares with the 135i in terms of being a daily driver, noise, comfort, ride quality, MPG
As for performance, most of us have read how great the GT500 is.

I stayed with BMW. I got a 2013 335i Msport.
I'm expecting BMW to come with a nicely improved 2 series coupe and sedan, and in M form too. That's what I'm looking forward to for next car, 3yrs from now.

I know, right? I drove 3 cars at Laguna Seca about 2 months ago to determine what my next ride would be. First was a 2010 4S, 2nd was a 2011 M3 and the third was the GT500. I have to say, the GT500 was incredible to drive, a hoot all around. It's well built, handles great and is by far the fastest, most powerful car I've ever driven. I couldn't believe it. Ford did a fantastic job on the car.

Yup, was my first BMW but grew up with 5 series, 7 series and M3's (my dad was a German car fanatic)

I'll be glad to do a comparison to my BMW 135 in all aspects, once i receive the GT500 (it's being built as i type this). I purchased a beater car for bad weather but will use the GT500 as much as possible (i.e. Blizzaks). Keep you guys posted.

Glad to hear that someone else besides me is not afraid to experiment with as many differerent makes & models of cars that one can...life it too short to drive just one!

Enjoy that beast! Theres nothing like having 600rwhp at your disposal from the factory! Its definitely one of the few American cars I would consider driving.

I came from the opposite side of the spectrum on this thread! I just traded in my 2006 Saleen mustang which was cammed, slammed, and bottle fed it would run low-mid 12's on dr's and 100hp n2o shot if I caught traction.

That car was a beast with unbelievable torque and hole shot capabilities but I honestly don't think it compares to baseline and light modding ability of the 135, especially around a track. This is my first BMW and definitely not my last.

Sorry OP no thread jack intended! I actually was going to pick up a GT500 because they are nearly unbeatable for their price and abilities. Plus those new 2013's decimate almost any new car on the market. Sorry corvette owners but

The gt 500 is far from an 06 which if would only run low 12s on drags clearly wasn't a straight line beast nor would expect that any good on the track. The new gen mustang is good on the track. The boss beats an m3 and the huge hp gte500 will be quite impressive for sure.

I own a vette but I'm no fanboy. For the money yes the gt 500 will not be beat straight line but it's still heavy and running on a solid rear. The z06 (z07 package) and zr1 will still be the most capable American cars.

Back on topic have fun with the car it's a completely different animal than your 135, for good and for bad. I love my 600+hp vette and my 135 for different reasons. I'm glad to have both because too much of either leaves me wanting the other.

By beast, I mean the car.. Not necessarily the times or power. It was a rough riding, loud, obnoxious, and just an overall fun drive.

The BMW however is subtle and comfortable and surprisingly fast, and fairly easy to mod. So I'm sure should could relate to the meaning of my wording.

Hey guys -

Just a brief follow up after getting rid of the 135 and purchasing a 13 GT500. Now, while i do miss the BMW, the Shelby is just loads of fun. I decided not to use her during the winter, sticking with my humble Civic for DD.

The BMW was of course, agile and quick. The Shelby is a beast that takes some getting used to (still getting used to it). The car is surprisingly well built, very solid, interior is spartan but well made. The recaros are the best seats I've ever come across and worth every penny. I do miss the M series steering wheel as the Shelby's is a combo of Alacantara and leather but the BMW wheel takes the cake.

The power is amazing and respect is needed when driving her. 662hp/631 torque with 285's in the rear takes some throttle control but I'm learning. Taking her to Limerock in April for my first track event with the new car. She handles surpisingly well considering the size. Torsen differential and on the fly suspension changes help.

The clutch is 100% different than the 135 or an M3. The BMW's engagement are pretty much at the bottom and the shifter is butter-like. The shelby's engagement is almost at the top and the shifter reminds me of an older Ferrari with a gated shift; hard, stiff but meaningful. Because of the gear ratios, shifting is minimal for the most part. 0-60 in first gear, fellas.

Overall, it's a major departure over the BMW but so much more of an experience to drive, gets tons of attention (especially from M3s, which get beaten without me really trying). It's TOTALLY not a daily driver, not at all. That's what I miss about the BMW as they are the best of both worlds; quick and practical. I have the humbling civic with a whopping 100 hp as a station car and when it gets warmer out, the Shelby to hoon.

Hey OP,

Fellow Westchester res here. Lifetime German and Ford fan (few fox mustangs, mk 1,2,4 GTIs). Just got my 135i convertible this past fall. I had a really hard time deciding between it and a '13 Mustang GT Premium with the Track Pack and Recaros (yes great seats!). To be honest while I am 100 happy with my 1 purchase, if the mustang was on the lot the way I wanted it, I probably would have brought it home. I agree about the clutch feel. The coyote motor is just fantastic. The tranny wasn't great (the Shelby has a different one) as the shifter was notchy and un weighted. Anyway if we run into each on the Bronx river, I'll wave you by. Have fun and good luck with it.
