- sLek Double Sided CF Hood - sLek Double Sided CF Trunk - Lightweight Battery 17lbs - Recaro Seats Leather/Alcantara with Macht Schnell Mounting Hardware - APEX 18" ARC-8 Lightweight Trak Wheel Any input from someone who has done this route? what was the lbs lost? Thanks Vince,

There was a guy in NC i believe that built a custom CF widebody 135 that got it down to 2500 lbs...
And as an FYI they don't make a 135 w/o a sunroof in N/A

2500 lbs is the lightest.
You can buy a carbon fiber replacement roof and get rid of the sunroof.

I've lost about 250 lbs by:
- Remove entire back seat - Remove entire trunk liner - Replaced stock exhaust - Catless DP - Carbon fiber hood (removed hydraulics) - Carbon fiber trunk (removed hydraulics) - Carbon fiber diffuser - Cold air intake - Lighter wheels and tires - 17lb battery

Very noticeable, especially with suspension mods and engine tune. Nothing I can put numbers on, unless I was doing G loading through a skid pad or 0-60 times, or 60-0 stops... but everything feels a lot more enhanced. Acceleration, braking, grip through a turn. Getting closer to 3,000 lbs feels nice
I would love to get to 2,500... but that would require gutting the entire inside and installing a racing seat, as well as a lot of carbon fiber stuff.

Getting rid of the sun roof will save about 45 pounds. I have not done it on my 135i yet, but i did it on my previous track car e46m3. Made a significant difference, as it reduces the center of gravity and the car is more planted during hard cornering.
Anyone knows how to replace sun roof with something light on 135i? Not the entire roof panel which is very expensive, just the sunroof panel. Last edited by Groundpilot; 01-24-2012 at 02:20 PM.. |

that sunroof weight is at the worst possible place. when I was ordering my car I specifically asked for sunroof delete but the guy told me I had no choice. I did think ten minutes about it there is a guy with a race car thread that removed the sunroof. not sure if they welded a piece in there or what. 3000 lbs is very doable. those last few pounds will come at a premium. my car weighs 3250 with track wheels. you can definitely feel the 100 pound difference. you can feel difference between empty tank of gas and full.

Yep, I agree pixelblue. I haven't put a magnet on it yet, but does anyone know if the roof is aluminum or steel? You could always weld a plug in place of the sunroof, grind the welds and bondo the whole thing smooth to paint over it, or vinyl wrap it.

I believe you will need to maintain some of the weight just to keep your car planted if your getting the HPF Turbo kit

True...but you have to at least consider the success they have had with the e46 platform (S54). I think from an engineering standpoint it is doable since I've seen some of the engine re-builds on you-tube. I'm just waiting for that 1st one to confirm success
