CP-e TowPlate Installed along with some others
Got the CP-e Towplate the other day in the mail. Install takes about 5 minutes and I love the new look. All I have to do now is plug the 4 holes that the dealer decided to drill when it only required 2 to mount the plate in the middle (I edited these pictures to get rid of the holes to give myself a better idea of what it'll look like later). I also put on BMW Performance Gloss Black Grills and blacked out the BMW Roundels.
Not sure if there's been pictures of the TowPlate installed on the 1 so I figured I'd post some pics. Let me know what you think.

I wasn't sure at first either, but I like the idea that the FMIC is getting as much air as possible now

tow plate look
Like salt & vinegar potato chips...the look grows on ya. While not a fan at first, the idea of not having holes in the bumper is worth it. Someone once posted +1 for no holes, -1 for off-centered look...net result 0.
I'd give it another +1 if it were easy to remove but no. Someone bought one of these http://www.topflightrepro.com/ but said the tape holding the bracket gave way...

There is a guy across the street from me who has his plate mounted on a bracket that drills or tapes underneath the bumper on his 5. With the press of a button his plate slides out and with another press it stows and you can't see it. It's mostly a corvette thing...but it was pretty clutch

He must have the Altec Retractable License Plate
http://www.ninosport.com/ProductDeta...oductCode=400U It's nice, but it looks like the only way to mount it on the 1 is in front of the FMIC which is what I was trying to avoid all along. Unless someone is able to make a custom bracket solution to fit it off center.

What about 3M tape? Thats how they do it here in Germany. Looks very clean and smooth. But then again, our plates are long.

^ that's the one...except his is motorized...and the point of it is that you have it stowed away while driving. You get to a parking spot and you show the plate. Or if a cop pulls you over you flip it up before he positive id that you had no front plate.

Has anyone ever done some controlled dyno testing of front plate vs. no front plate? I'd just like to know how much of a difference it actually makes. Is it worth the tow hook plate and associated risk of bumper-to-bumper damage?

I doubt they'll be any results at all shown from a dyno, it's more for peace of mind to know the fmic is getting as much air as possible during track/high speed situations

Gomini.com also sells a pretty good setup that sits lower and is offset or centered on the towhook hole. That's what I have on mine. How rigid is the CP-e one and how much it cost?
