Just installed mine as well. Looks great on TiAg. Pictures to follow next weekend.

If have a 135 why would you need to by the shadowline grills to create a custom chrome surround/black slate grill? That sounds like the stock 128 grill. You can probably swap your 135 grill with a 128 owner. The full chrome grill will look great on a silver non-sport pkg 128.

Yeah, that would make sense. For I, I needed the entire grill black.

Agreed, which is exactly what I did with mine. Thanks again, Andy.

Just got my Shadowline Grills in the mail.

Un-Boxing

Grills Side By Side

Close Up of Clips

Another Close Up of Clips

A Tool I created out of a wire hanger (tried to find the thickest hanger I could). Used a vice, and grinder. Thought I would share this idea so that we all could save $12.99 for the tools.

Close up of the handle on the tool

Close up of the pick end.

Now I just need my 135i to arrive, and I am ready to install. I got about a week or two left. Its currently on the boat! Yes I have resulted to the calendar countdown.

Enjoy.

Nice job on the DIY tool. I actually just picked up my new grills tonight, and I'm going to give this a shot. Hell, we have enough hangers around the house, so there's really no reason not to try it.

I don't suppose you perfected your skills while in prison making shanks, did you?

And I'm done. Shadowline grills look great on AW, especially with the sports package.

The wire hanger tool worked fine. It wasn't the best thing ever, but it was readily available and free!

BTW, this was my first mod to this car, and more importantly, the first mod that I had my 7 yr old daughter help me with.

HA, thats funny, i have not had any prison time thankfully. Buts its funny you mentioned it as I was joking with my dad about it looking like a shank. Makes me think of that commercial, I think was for Comacast, about how the mom says, "i am going to have to block you".

Cant wait to get my car to install them.

A couple notes and some comparative pics from my install.

1. I did not remove the insulation strip, didn't see that it was necessary.

2. My bolts were very loose, to the point were I am kinda suprised they were still there, odd.

3. The side clips make a sickening breaking plastic sound when they come out, but they didn't break, ugh.

4. The first one took forever, then second was very quick, just like the one guy above said.

5. Thanks for the DIY!!!

6. I made my own tools out of crochet hooks I bought, about $2 each, here is a pic of those.

The one on the left is used for the top clips, and the business end could have been a bit longer on this one, but it worked as shown.

The one on the right is used for the bottom clips and was pretty much dead on for size.

I am posting the comparo pics in this section because I think not everyone interested in the swap may look in the SGM photo section. The full car pics with them in will be in the SGM master thread.

Just a FYI - I found a tool kit at Walmart with the same four tools that ANDYM used for $4.

I can't decide which way to go but currently I'm running with the last picture. It'll be totally blacked out if I change my mind again. As Surname mentioned above, chrome outer rings and black slats are classic. But all the BMW's around here are that way and I don't roll like that.

I'm a fan of the chrome slats.
