I had my 370z for about a year before I traded it in for the 135i. The 135i feels much better than the Z in every category. I think the only benefit the Z has is the better offsets to throw on some fat rubber.

Its funny i saw an extremely similar thread on a 370z forum. The comments there were all the inverse of the ones on here.
If you look closely though, they basically all say: "We can easily beat the 135... with turbos installed in ours" |

The 350Z is not very fast in a straight line.
A friend had an early 350Z and it wasn't half bad then, but aged pretty quickly. The 370Z is a huge improvement in many areas. Lots of little things. I cross shopped and seriously considered one. I decided this time around I couldn't quite give up amount of practicality the 135i had over the 370Z, but I would still love to own one some day. It's a really amazing car, and after you drive one you'll see why it is a true "sports car" and not just a sporty coupe ala the 135i. 370Z is B stock in SCCA. 350Z is C stock. 135i is D stock. That all seems reasonable. 350Z comes with wider wheels, stiffer double wishbone suspension all around which is probably why it is classes a notch up from the 135i. 370Z is just plainly superior to the other two in handling. It is much stiffer, has much wider wheels and tires, weighs slightly less, better suspension geometry compared to the 135i within stock category limitations.

370Z does have better handling and the power is similar to a stock 135i from a dig due to the Z's traction advantage but when it comes to roll racing, they are turds. I have embarrased quite a few Z owners with the 302 like they were standing still.
so dont waste your gas

Tell him it doesn't seem to handle losing very well.

Nothing wrong with having a slower car. The 350z is an awesome, fun car. But douchebag deserved what douchebag got. ^That came off more pretentious than I wanted it to. But it's true. Nothing wrong with having a slower car. Our 1ers are plenty slower than other cars out there, in a straight line and in the twisties. We upgrade it, we play with it, we have fun. It's still a great car. One of my favorites for the past 4 years

Last I checked, a stock 350Z (auto or manual) is slower than a stock 128i (auto or manual) 0-60 and 1/4 mile. Forget the 135i...
The 350Z's biggest problem is too-tall gearing from what I remember when my brother had his.

lol I have an almost identical story... A somewhat of a collegue has an 04 or maybe 05 350Z 'vert which is pretty heavy for the power its putting down. I was a tiny bit faster against him with my 2008 VW GTI MKV, mostly because I could launch that car really really well. Recently he told me that he got some mods which he wont disclose and that he would smoke me. I said ok lets do it and conviently left out the fact that I sold my GTI and got a 135i with the ppk :P And if you have been reading this thread thus far, you know exactly how this ends - he got owned, again.

My cousin was looking for a Z a few years ago so I test drove a DE. It was easily the most disappointed I've ever been test driving a car.
Well now my buddy has a HR with full bolt ons. I would have tried to stop him if I had known he was looking for one. That said, it's a completely different car from the DE. With the mods I think it would have beaten my 135i when it was stock and it handles noticeably better than the 135i IMO. There is something to be said for the responsiveness of the NA engine as well. I still wouldn't want to own one but it's fun to drive and really not such a bad car. |

Yea the 350z is much faster than a 128i stock vs stock. The 350z is a nice car,
I could just never get over the fact of its blind spots....the windows are insanely small. Plus the interior just looked off to me, but that exhaust note is still amazing to me.

I own a 370Z now and Im trying to sell it. Its a great car with tons of mechanical grip (I have the sport pack so bigger wheels and tires and the LSD in the back) i also have the touring pack(heated leather, bose stereo)
but yeah the VQ engine is thrashy especially up high RPMs where you need to be to the power out of it. I drove a 135i over the weekend and while it didnt feel as planted on a fast on-ramp it did pull crazy well. Stock for Stock it would be down to the driver in a drag I felt but the BMW was smoother to drive and shift. Around a track....the Z might edge it simply because of the grip levels it has stock....Im not saying the 135i isnt going to be in its rearview mirror though. I think it can keep up no doubt. I just cant take the ride in mine anymore. My lower back is giving me trouble and Im young.....My back is sore after just my hour drive to work....I loved the 135i's seats and ride comfort so Im willing to lose a slight handling advantage for the comfort levels in the BMW. They are both good cars but Im over the single minded sports car of the Z and ready for something to be a good daily driver.....I have my ducati if I want to go crazy fast... on a side note....i agree 350Z drivers can be DBs. i had one before the 370 and the 370 is much more grown up and more expensive that not a lot of kids can afford them. Im on the370z.com and i think that most of the guys over there are good car people and dont look down on any car....i mean theres a lot of guys who bought 5.0 mustangs after their 370s and they dont mind that I'm trying to sell my car on there to buy a BMW. hopefully someone will buy my Z soon and I can go get my 135i....my back needs it...lol |
