Hey op, I was just pushing the car a little bit. Then I noticed the boost wasn't kicking in. Scheduled an appointment, and my service paper said the charge pipe completely separated from the throttle body. that's all I was told. The charge pipes are known to be a little weak. charge pipe was replaced under warranty.

Dealer just called and apparently it was my mass air flow sensor that shorted out. Has this happened to anyone before? Is it common?

OP, I had similar symptoms and dealer just called to say it was the charge pipe and it will be $1000 to replace. Car is out of warranty but is CPO, however pipes and hoses are not covered by CPO...
Sucks to be me. I'll see if there's a diy for the charge pipe. |

Time out. $1,000 for the OE chargepipe and diverter valves? Are they made of platinum or something at this dealership? Look around in the FS section and I guarentee you can find someone selling an OE chargepipe for literally percentage points of that quoted price. Hell an aftermarket chargepipe+bov isn't even close to $1,000. Please do not pay that kind of money for a piece of plastic tubing. And the install is DIY, quite simple once the airbox is off. I'm almost shocked a dealer would so blatantly try to take your money, personally I would never ever go back to a dealer who did that

The part itself is about $300, the rest labor, including a few hundred for 'Diagnostics'. At $300 it's still about the same as a metal aftermarket one, so I will ask them why I shouldn't just go that route... I'll know more tomorrow P.S. Sorry for |

As said before, a Chargepipe is one of the easiest DIY parts to replace.

So after being told by my SA that my car was ready for pickup I took a $100 taxi ride to the dealership where I waited for my car. When I got in the car I turned it on to still fine the CEL lit in the instrument cluster. I initially thought they had forgotten to clear some codes or something but I went to rev the engine a bit and found it to still sound exactly the same. Took the car off the lot and went about 50 feed down the road before I made a U turn to head back. The car was exactly the same as I left it. They said they replaced the MAF sensor and some wiring that my dealership at home had redone for me (apparently incorrectly) a while back.
Bottom line I spoke to my SA and expressed how mad I was that clearly no one took the time to go on a proper test drive and see if the problem persisted, probably didn't even do an initial test drive to see what the issue was. At the end of the day they wouldn't give me a loaner because I'm not 21 and I had to take another $70 taxi ride home and will have to return when they figure out whats going on with the car. At least the SA told me to get him receipts for the taxi rides and said I would be reimbursed but thats not what makes me the most mad. How could you not even check for the problem's persistence, You really only have to drive the car a couple feet to realize the major issue. Sometimes BMW's service people are just not smart about the way they go about doing their stuff.

Ended up being the charge pipe. For it back. Running a bit different but I was told this could happen since they changed the mass air flow sensor so it'll take some time to relearn.
