Pricing and BMW Canada

Hi! This is my first post. I decided to share some information I received yesterday from my dealer in Vancouver. He said BMW Canada is working hard on lowering the prices in Canada for all of their 2008 models. Well.. That's all he said about that.

Thats good news, thanks for the heads up. It makes sense too, lower canadian prices are really in their best interests. I mean, inflated prices are certainly not helping dealers either.

And welcome! And sorry about the Canucks last night! tough loss to the oil ...

^^ Well of course its smart. I mean Porsche has lowered there prices 10% to meet the american price's. Espically since our dollar is so strong now.

OT: Yeah that was a interesting game

...Maybe that's why Canada pricing would be released until later on...

Yah, I'm sure they're having their "come to Jesus" pricing meetings - they have to find the optimum price point where:
a) they get maximum profits through maintaining a significant pricing premium over U.S. prices
BUT
b) There is minimal incentive for potential customers to:
1. Buy from a U.S. source
2. Postpone purchase of new vehicle
3. Buy a competitors product..

My sense is that they know that the current 20% - 30% pricing delta is not sustainable and only brain dead Canadians will continue to buy their product under those conditions.
I'm guessing that they'll settle on a +/- 10% delta as being sufficient to satisfy the criteria (a & b) above..

Yea.. I mean.. you don't want to announce a US pricing and then announce (a much higher) Canadian pricing right afterward. That would be ... awkward.

Sounds eminently reasonable....which is probably why it ain't gonna happen! After all, it's BMW Canada we are talking about here.

this isn't looking good for BMW importing

Quote:
OK.. here is the official word from BMW.

(source: BMW Canada, 1-800-567-2691, Michelle, EXT 5650)

1) Client MUST purchase the Admissibility Letter from BMW Canada. Cost is $350.00; eta is 2 - 5 business days.

2) DEPENDANT ON MODEL and YEAR, car will have to have work done from a BMW Canada dealer to make the DRL (daytime running lights) PERMANENT. YOU CANNOT SIMPLY USE iDRIVE to turn them on. Without having a Canadian Dealer do this work, BMW CA will not issue to a recall letter.

EXAMPLES:
BMW 2007 Z4 - Changes to DRL's can be done via software by dealer. No word on cost.
BMW 2007/2008 3-Series - Changes to DRL's can be done via software BUT ALSO the US cluster MUST be changed to the CANADIAN cluster to make the DRL changes PERMANENT. The cost to do this is roughly $1500.00.

3) Once the changes are made by the BMW CA dealer, they will forward the information to BMW Corporate who will then allow you to order the recall letter at a cost of $500.00.

4) You can now register your car in Canada.

5) BMW sucks.

Besides that, not much new info. I've heard April availability for the 135 from my dealer.

Wow, I stopped by my local BMW dealer yesterday and they wanted me to put a $1K deposit on my planned purchase of the 128i ragtop and was given an estimate of $42K base MSRP.
Further, it's their opinion that the 128i & 135i Coupes will come in at approx $32K & $42K Cdn respectively.
So, get X BMW Canada dealers in a room and you'll get X+1 opinions as to 1-series pricing..

This is at Town and Country BMW.. and as always the sales guy is an ass.. I might take my $$$ back and go to Budds as my friend went their to get his 335i and he said they were so good to him.. and yes I was pretty pissed because I could get a 335i.. so I hope the real price us cdns get when it is released is more inline with the American counter parts as all our options seemed to be doubled and tripled in price points.....

You went to T&C. They're my buddies there! (sarcasm). I've heard very few good things about them. My own experience with them was less than stellar.

Let's hope that 10K gap is a dealer fantasy. It seems way too high given that in the US the 135i is only $6300 more than the 128i...
