Grey Poplar

Has anyone recently been able to order grey poplar, or is that still not available?

I have alu. and terra and would like to switch to the grey, but I am not sure if you can yet and I am now a week 4 build and i don't want to push that back any.

+11. My dealer called today saying no Gray Poplar. WTF!

The config, brochure, and price list all have Gray Poplar.

my dealer speculated there was a supplier shortage; however, i really don't think he knows anything specific.

I wasnt able to order the Gray Poplar either. Dealer had no idea why... so i guess no Gray Poplar?

keep checking back w/ your sales guy...it could be available at any time. my sales guy said he would keep an eye out for it ... we will see!

Maybe there is no option for Gray Poplar because it is the default.

If you check the chart on page 12 of 15 in the brochure:

It shows Gray Poplar as standard, and Burl Walnut or Aluminum as optional. So if it is default, it may not show up in an ordering system...

My order is for a 135i, is still at the initial "on order" stage,
and supposedly was the first one from that dealer.

So is there anyone out there that originally wanted Grey Poplar, took HG Black because Grey Poplar wasn't available, and now can't decide which they like better?

I can't decide if I want to try to switch back. I'm really ambivalent about this.

This is exactly what i saw too. My dealer and I agree that it is most proabably the default, but he is checking to make sure. i will post if I find anything definitive out.

Yeah, I'm REALLY disappointed. I chose black trim. I've ordered Jet Black on Black Leatherette. It seems the dealers don't know what's up on this issue, or any other issue.

Anyone else annoyed at BMW's launch of this vehicle? There seem to be many unaswered questions. And it becomes the enthusiast and Long Term BMW customers who sign up for first dibs, then get the run around.....

As important as they've made this car out to be, and with all the nostalgia references, there is A LOT of vagueness about oil coolers, lease terms, trim issues, shift nobs, blah blah blah.

I guess we'll get what we get.........

Back to the original questions. What else goes with Black on Black? I have Burl in my 330 now, and I can't really see it on black interior. Don't like the fish scale Aluminum.

I REALLY, REALLY like the Gray........

My dealer told my they HAVE to enter something on the screen and that GRAY is not one of the options. I asked him to leave it blank OR write in comments as to wanting GRAY, but he said he couldn't.

I'll check back with him before production, if I can, but it seems it's not available.:iono::iono::iono:

well my dealer claims that my 135i is ordered with HG Black now ... and if i go to the Owner's Circle website, my car doesn't have a trim listed. Other people's specs on that website do list trim ... thus i infer from this that HG Black is the default in the system.

annoying.

disappointing update:

dealer just now tried again to add grey poplar and the system wouldn't let him. says it looks as though they've "scrapped grey poplar for now."

edit: he also said he couldn't de-select my high gloss black w/o selecting aluminum or walnut. so that tells me grey poplar isn't the "default" trim.

hey guys, i just checked owner's circle and my car has gone into production and a VIN shows up.

now surprisingly i have grey poplar trim showing up as one of my optioned choices ... i'm not sure if my dealer was able to add it at the last minute or what .... but it wasn't there before.

anyway just an fyi that it apparently is available.

I went to order my 128 this evening and after my SA went to enter my order in the computer, he said he couldn't add the aluminum trim. He said it wasn't showing up for any 128, coupe or convertible. So I asked what the default trim was and he said it was the Gray Poplar, which I don't like at all. Go figure! I don't understand what's going on with these trim options. BMWUSA is really doing a terrible job providing clarity and answers with these orders. I built my 128 on 1/15/08 with the aluminum trim and today it doesn't exsist!! I'm really getting frustrated.
