Discount tire wont mount my tires?

I went to Discount tire to have them mount my new RFT's (yeah, I know! WTF I'm I doing putting RFT's back on my car?) anyway...when they saw I had BMS wheel spacers they said they wouldn't work on my vehicle? They told me no way no how would they touch my car unless I removed the rear spacers so they could remount the rim to the actual hub. I had no choice so I told them to remove the spacers and mount the tires without them. Luckily for me they threw in a set of stock length bolts because the ones I had were longer in order to mount the 15mm spacers. Now I need to unmount the rear tires again and reinstall the wheel spacers myself! What a hassle!! It's not like the wheel spacers were some cheap chinese knock off brand, they are specifically manufactured for my make and model car!

Some places are like that because they don't want to get blamed if anything happens. Just keep a mental note of it and never go there again. Other places would be eager to serve the customer.

Yeah the manager told me it was a safety thing and he wasn't going to hold the store liable in the event the wheel flew off the vehicle in some sort of freak occurance. What can I do?? It was the only place I trusted to not scratch my rims when changing out those dam RFT's...

Also wish I had my car over there in Germany so I could drive this baby the way it was meant to be driven! On the Autobahn!

It's a safety issue. If you were to teck your car at a drivers event you wouldn't pass inspection with wheel spacers.

Thanks for the input. Good thing I don't track my car.

Just wondering if any members have had an issue using quality wheel spacers?? Mine are Burger Motor sports Hubcentric spacers. 10mm in front and 15mm in the rear.

That is the biggest BS I've heard. I've done countless events. Whether track days or Auto-X and with different clubs, including SCCA, NASA, BMWCCA, and PCA just to name a few and none of them even mentioned anything about running spacers.

Yea, I'm hearing different things. Just wanted to know if anyone has had an issue using spacers? Mine have been on my car for about 6 months.

Using spacer no. But DriveHard did report that his 128i wheel bolts started to develop (streess)cracks on the threads! I would check your wheel bolts every time you change your wheels. Or at least once per year if you live in a hot climate.

I'll start doing that. Thanks.

Try not to take it personal, unfortunately is a rule that Discount Tire has for all their stores, we are a major supplier for their stores nation wide and although we do business on a daily day we still encounter issues when it comes to spacers. Spacers are perfectly safe so as long as you have the proper lug nuts or bolts to make up for lost tread, here's something that will make you feel safe about spacers. Did you know that a Porsche 911 narrow body uses a 52et rear wheel but Porsche uses the same wheel for the 911 wide body
40et but uses about a 10mm spacer, straight from the dealer, we are talking about a 150,000.00 dollar car that comes with spacers from the dealer. Either way is just a company policy.

I did not know that about Porsche. Thanks for your input.

Like MRR mentioned, this is a Discount Tire policy. This isn't the first time I've heard of this happening, and while it is safe to run spacers with the proper hardware, Discount Tire does not want to be liable for things like this.

My Austin Mini (76) actually has rear drums with built-in spacers.
