New transmission!
I own a 2011 135i 6mt. Long story short I need a new transmission. The dealer is recommending putting a new clutch and flywheel in as well. So my question is; is it really necessary to replace the clutch and the flywheel when putting a new transmission in?
The transmission is expensive already and a new clutch and flywheel aren't cheap. The cost is quickly adding up. I guess I'm just trying to avoid a huge financial hit all at once. Thank you |

Is the surface of the flywheel worn considerably? How many miles on the car? I can understand doing a clutch as long as you've got the tranny out - the flywheel on the other hand . . . unless this is something to do with the 'dual-mass' (IIRC) flywheel.

I'm not sure what condition the flywheel is in. I'll be sure to ask about that the next time I speak with bmw. The car is nearing 75000 miles.

Definitely want to replace the clutch, especially if you didn't put the bulk of the miles on the car (and don't know how it's been treated). It's cheaper to do it while the tranny is being replaced than 25,000 miles from now. : -)

But i believe ISTA has a slightly different version of instructions that dont require the LuK tool. I cant remember if it is an LuK or Sachs DMF that we have, sorry. |
