BMW Exhaust Clamps For Performance Exhaust Question

I just recently installed the y-pipe resonator delete portion of my performance exhaust... I was probably tired and I didn't have a lot of room to work underneath the car so I didn't measure correctly. I probably have about half an inch of space between the OEM mid-pipe and the performance exhaust section.

Would this be a problem or are those clamps supposed to seal them shut? How much distance can you put in between the 2 sections where the clamp goes on? Can you make the distance close to the length of the clamp itself?

Thanks guys...

Here's a picture of the BMW Performance Exhaust clamp:

Only one way to find out! Slap them on, see if it leaks too badly.

After that, just drive to a local shop and have them sleeve and weld. Should be cheap.

I think ~1/2 inch would be fine. Although I cut mine around +/- 1/4 inch, but I was kind of being OCD.

I did use an exhaust assembly from LiquMolly... inside those clamps and around the mid pipe(s) just to make sure everything would seal up nicely.

I am sure Permatex must make something very similar to the LiquMolly paste.

Thanks a lot Dackelone!

I was really aiming for 1/4" but the other pipe got a bit inaccurate cut.

I have this on my car (135is). Mine is leaking a bit of exhaust but what comes through is actually a drip of water or something. I've tried tightening the thing down a bit (it's already on very tight!) but it still leaks. I'm guessing I should buy a new one (what's the part #? Realoem doesn't show it for me) or get some sealant?

Just stop by the local parts store and buy an 'exhaust band clamp'. Should be a stocking item everywhere.
I think you'll need a 2.5" version.

Those clamps are great... much better then the cheap stuff you’ll find at most parts stores. It should be fine, just make sure it’s nice and tight
