Hi All,
Figured I would contribute to the thread because it was greatly helpful as I went to change out my OEM 261 wheels and tires recently. Wheels: Apex ARC 8's Front: 18x8.5" ET45 Rear: 18x9.5" ET62 Tires: Front: Brigestone Potenza RE760 235/40/18F Rear: Brigestone Potenza RE760 265/35/18R Suspension/Fender Mods/Camber: - stock M Sport package Notes: No rubbing. Drives like a dream compared to the OEM rims and run flats. Last edited by Brandon135i; 07-08-2015 at 07:30 PM.. |

Put a set of Arc 8's on last month and there is a lot of weight savings.
2008 135i stock 264 wheels with Michelin AS3, 225 Front 49.4 lbs., 255 Rear 50.8 lbs. Arc 8's Michelin PSS 235 Front 41 lbs., 265 Rear 46 lbs. Total weight savings of 26.4 lbs.

I'm interested in reading more about this, could you provide some sources? I've always liked the idea of push button ride height change using air, but didn't want to sacrifice any handling performance.

Wheels: RTX Mystique
Front: 18x8 ET38 Spacer: none Rear: 18x9 ET42 (or so it's advertised) Spacer: none Tires: Front: Michelin Pilot Super Sport 225/40R18 Rear: Michelin Pilot Super Sport 245/35R18 Suspension/Fender Mods/Camber: - 128i with M-package suspension, rear fenders rolled, rear camber negative 2 deg. Notes: No issues with front. Originally had MPSS 255/35R18 on rear, rubbed on any bump on normal driving, had rear fenders rolled and camber adjusted to maximum negative allowed by stock M-package suspension, still rubbed on deep bumps, changed to 245/35R18 and now no rubbing at all under full load/hard cornering. Checked the offset of the RTX 18x9 wheels and measured it to be actually 37mm, not 42, which explains why all the rubbing. Oh, and one rear rim was bent after one track day (novice, first time out, so not under much stress), teaches me a lesson for buying cheap wheels. I started with a staggered set of Style 263 wheels with OEM Bridgestone Potenza RE050A runflats and a staggered set of Style 264 wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3s as well. (yeah, my wife keeps asking when I'm opening the tire store). Both sets of fronts 18x7.5 ET49 215/40R18, both rears 18x8.5 ET52 245/35R18. I have mounted 12mm spacers on both front and rears for a more aggressive look, with no rubbing issues at all. Then I weighed the 263's, rears were 29.1lbs actual! 24.8 spec was bad enough! Fronts no better, 28.2 actual vs 24.3 spec! Damn boat anchors. Went with the RTXs at 19/17.9 rear/front, saved 40lbs unsprung weight, huge difference in the car's handling and acceleration. I have also tried both 263 and 264 rears on the front with a 12mm spacer, so 18x8.5 with effectively ET40. Both fit identically, with 7mm clearance between the wheel lip and the strut. The "curb rash" protection ring on the tires both protrude 5mm past the wheel lip, leaving 2mm clearance between the tire and the strut. I chalked the strut and did a gentle run around the block, all the chalk was taken off by the tire, no issue with the wheel. I then drove it hard slalom in a parking lot, no fender rubbing, only strut. I did this all as a test before pulling the trigger on a stronger set of wheels for track days, ideally a square APEX ARC8 18x8.5 setup with 245/35R18 all around, but all that I have read on this and other forums does not make sense based on my observations. I see many using ET45 without issue, but how is it possible for that to work? That would put the wheel 2mm from my strut, guaranteed rub on hard cornering, never mind the complete interference with the tire. Based on my experience with the RTX rear offset, I believe it comes down to the fact that all offsets are not created equal. So, the only true way I can see to ensure a perfect fit is by the backspacing dimension. Based on my stock Style 263/264 18" diameter wheels, I have exactly 168mm from the hub mounting surface to the strut, so I need an 18x8.5 wheel with a backspacing of about 158mm so that the tires are 5mm from the strut. So I asked APEX, what's the backspacing? Reply: "Unfortunately we do not have backspacing measurements, but I do believe there is a way for you to convert the offset to the backspacing. We do not have that formula readily available." You're kidding, right? You do build these, don't you? From a drawing with dimensions, I would hope. At least you could pull one off the shelf and take a measurement for a sale. Which brings me to my question for the forum members, does anyone have an ARC8 18x8.5, either ET38 or ET45, that would be willing to measure and post the backspacing (hub mounting surface to the outside of the inner wheel lip)? |

Hi all!!
I'm thinking on buying 225M 19" wheels (From 3 series) for my E82. They would look like this: They are: 8x19 ET37 9x19 ET39 What tyre sizes could I install without rubbing issues? I'm thinking on 225/35 + 245/30, but not sure if they would be too big. And, if I roll the fenders? PD: Stock M suspension. Thank you very much! |

Wheels: ASA GT5 18x9 et45mm square
Front: 8mm spacer which made the wheel et37. 5mm spacer is just enough to clear strut with about 0.7-0.6mm gap(checked with feeler gauge) 0.88 will not fit. Rear: no spacer Tires: front is 225/40/18. The plan is to 245 up front, but don't have time yet Rear is 255/35/18 Bridgestone re050a rft. Those 255 seems really skinny. I compared with my 245/35/18 Bridgestone re760 and the tread width seems about the same. Checked spec on tirerack the re760 has a tread width of 9" and re050a rft has a tread width of 8.6". Due to the rim protector lip on re050a, the sidewall by the rim side sticks out more then my 245 re760. There is about 5mm clearance from the tire to rear fender when rear is fully compress. I will most likely need to roll rear fender to fit a true 255 at rear. Suspension: Dinan springs with yellow koni M3 front tension struts/arms Dinan camber plate. Maxed out at -2.2 on left and -2.0 on right. Rear camber at -1.9 Rear spring has a 1/4" spacer to raise the ride height. Fenders: all stock for now. Note: shaved bumper taps. No rub at all for street driving even with big dips or bump. Have not track or corner hard yet. When checked on hoist with front wheels at full lock(left or right) the inner rim/tire may touch the tension struts/arms. I have not notice any kind of rubbing from normal street driving Hope this help someone out since I only saw one other member running this same wheels square. |

Based on previous comments in this thread, I'm planning to install stock rear M-Sport wheels on my front to run 245/40/18 square. I'm considering going with a 10mm spacer in front to correct the offset and considering the dinan fixed camber plates for more fender clearance. Can anyone offer experiences with a setup like this on track / auto-x?

2012 128i Coupe
Wheels: Apex EC-7 18x8.5 ET45 Square Front: no spacer Rear: no spacer Tires: 235/40R18 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 all around Suspension: Stock sport package Fenders: stock Note: FRONTS RUB ON THE STRUT (damn it). Can I fit a 3mm spacer in the front (go to ET42 effective) without hitting the fender? Alternatively just might let the rim guard wear in--it's not even rubbing enough to get hot. |
