135i on Aussie Top Gear Tonight
Apparently Steve Pizzati (one of the presenters) will be dropping in with his own car on tonights show.. a BMW 135i.
He must have liked it when he drove it on a previous episode. |

Haha you beat me to it I was just about to post this. I also read somewhere that James Morrison is driving the Evo X so maybe the Evo X and 135i will have a showdown?

Cool! The E82 was indeed put against the Evo and out ran it in the drag race. Unfortunately, it was half a second slower on the TG test track. Note though, that was comparing it with last years timing of the BMW.

Yeah I actually enjoyed watching that review. It seems like Steve Pizzati is a genuine fan of the 135i. He gave it rave reviews last year and he backed it up again this year. It was nice to see the 135i v Evo X in a drag race and see what the difference is like. The Evo will always be the ultimate track car but it was suprsingy to see the 135i was only half a second behind on such a untidy lap on last years season. Great review.

Was great to watch. I was surprised the Evo held up so well on the second drag race. Thought the Evo would get the better start and the 135 catch up but it wasn't the case at all!

I liked the show - being "shot" of the pommie host was a big contributor to the improved result. It's now much less of a "cheap imitation".
James Morrison is a "character", and IMO well suited to the role. Here's hoping that they go from strength to strength from here - fingers crossed. The 135 Vs EvoX was interesting - different cars = different strengths. On balance, it looked pretty close. When it gets down to 1/10ths of a second, comparing "runs" from different cars (albeit same model), on different days, is pretty meaningless when talking about forced induction cars. There are just too many variables to make it worthwhile. I'd like to see them run the EVOX and the 135, around their track, back to back. That would be an interestiong statistical comparison. However, much as it hurts me to say it -- I think th EVOX might have the edge - JUST. That damn 4wd is just hard to overcome. |

whats with the evo takeoff? I would have revved that bitch to redline and dropped it and left the 135 for dead. Just like how a GTR should be launched

I wonder if the semi auto Evo gearbox won't let you do a full on hard launch like you can with a proper manual? I too would've expected the AWD to leave the 135 behind off the line and the 135 to do some catching up. Maybe the 5 speed "proper" manual EVO is better off the mark.

James Morrison is so much more personable than Charlie Cox. I think the three blokes now make an entertaining team. If they can find a niche whereby they're slightly different to Clarkson, Hammond and May yet keep the blokey element without the okerisms I reckon it could be a winner.

On any given track I would imagine the difference in track times would be much more with the Evo X beating the 135i by seconds but on the TGA track there are alot of straight road, the biggest one being 900m and the turns don't seem to be that insane. As others have pointed out different cars on different days, it would be nice to see them tested back to back.

I think even if you check the time that Motor magazine did in Wakefield park. 135i is not that much behind from the EVO.
Need a set of tyres... that is about it.
