Wrench lost into the engine!
Arg, was working on the car, and my idiot friend first drops a screw, eventually find it. The he drops a small wrench. I cant find it, We saw it at the bottom of the undercarriage, and i tried to give it gas and stop to see if it fail out. It eventually became way to dark to work and i had to be at work on time today. I was going to go home and look at removing the undercarriage or something, has anyone done this? Any ideas or suggestions?

I've dropped a few things down there when installing parts...you need to remove most of the plastic undertray...it sucks, but unless you know where it is and have an extending magnet (which i do now) you have to do it.

depending on the wrench, if its steel you can use a telescoping magnet to grab it. or just pull the plastic undercarriage, its quite easy, haven't done it on my one by many other bimmers and its usually a few torx screws or 8/10mm nuts

I was going to say... drop another wrench in and follow that one.

Sears has a handy extending magnet with a light. I used to have one but lost it. I saw it on sale for $10.

I once dropped a small screw into a 1" hole on the bell housing of the trans in my old Audi A4. It jammed the flywheel and I couldn't start the car until we pulled the trans and took it out. That sucked.

I uses a stong magnet. I placed the magnet on the underside of the plastic undertray and moved it around until it found the wrench. I then dragged it to an opening near the wheelwell.

Go under and remove the plastic under-tray. This is the only way.

A friend of mine dropped a screw into the oil fill hole in a Chevy V8 rocker cover. We both saw it go in. Yanked the rocker cover and found no screw. Probably went down the oil drain hole and into the valley by the cam. Drained the water, yanked the intake manifold, no screw. Probably went down the oil drain holes and into the pan. Yanked the oil pan, no screw. We looked for a long time before we found the screw sitting on top of the windage tray. We fixed a lot of oil leaks in the process...
