N55 overheated
Was driving my car today, got off the highway after about 30 min of driving. Noticed some slightly strange behavior with car, some lurching and a slight lack of power but nothing really that caused any alarm. About 15 minutes off the highway while stopped at a light I got a high engine temp warning and then 10 seconds later the overheating alert came up. Light went green right after and I was able to just barely pull off the road into a parking lot and shut the car down.
Car is a 2011 with just over 40k miles and bone stock. I'm thinking maybe water pump? Seems to be really early though. Any other thoughts? Its on a flatbed on its way to the nearest BMW dealer (luckily right by my house) for evaluation Friday morning. |

I track my 135i a lot. My warranty ends in May 2015, and Im at 70,000Kms / 43,000 Miles right now. Would love for this to happen before warranty ends, as I read that these are not cheap to repair. Also watched a pro video on how to change it. Very inaccessible liggle bugger, this e-Water Pump!

$50 deduct is stiil very acceptable for something upwards of $1000 in "dealer labor" rate and parts. Wish I had CPO on mine.
I will be faced with the decision on extending the warranty on my 2011 135i in May 2015. I probably will pass on this option as BMW Canada wants around $2500-3500CAD for 2 years 160,000Kms coverage. I dont see myself spending 3500 in repairs, and e-water pump is about a grand in parts and labor, when it fails ...
