Question if your 1M does not feature the comfort access option: do you experience any issues with the remote key fob, more particularly, can you still open the 1M from a far range as before ?

Some owners complain that the range of their remote key fob significantly reduced after tinting their windows. Reason: tinted windows happen to block rays of all sorts.

I do not have tinted windows and I know for a fact that the range sucks on my key fob. I have to be less than 15-20 ft for it to work. Anyone else experience this?

Nice, but have 35% 3M on sides, rear; would not want on front based on refraction that I see in rear. Did you take delivery in Germany or just a fan of Nordschliefe/Nurburgring? I got my decals while over there--awesome!

I have comfort access and I rarely use the remote ... but I will try it and let you know

Little suggestion as a future mod for you to consider: a secondary A/C unit to deal with that heat. Yours will be the first and only 1M with two A/Cs too

Nope. Carbon XP all around and have not noticed a difference.

To be fair, I have comfort access and hardly ever use the fob manually anymore.

I never use the keyfob. I got more fingers on my hands than the times I pushed the keyfob buttons. The keyfob always remains inside my pocket.

Just for the record:
  • with a 1M without the comfort access option you got to slide the keyfob into the key slot nearby the start button as a requirement for starting the engine + the keyfob recharges when slotted (with an operational engine);
  • with a 1M featuring the comfort access option you are not required to slide the keyfob into the key slot (no need to take it out of your pocket) + however, the keyfob does not recharge (not even when you slide it inside the key slot); in other words: the keyfob will need a new battery in the future.
That's also why you better avoid pushing the keyfob buttons. It's not necessary anyway.

So, EssamKh, store a spare battery somewhere inside your 1M, just in case.

No kidding! ... Do you know that cars exported to Gulf area have different A/C units with more capabilities?

Artemis are you sure about this? My SA and if I remember correctly the user manual said that if you place the key fob with comfort access in the slot the key fob will charge. That's is why they recommend you use your spare key fob every 6 months on long drives so it charges.

Artemis you are right. Just looked it up in the manual. Guess I gotta replace the battery when it goes. Strange that the comfort access option doesn't have rechargeable battery every though it is the more expensive option.

I'm wondering when the battery does die on my key fob if I can replace it with a rechargeable battery and then place it in the slot and see if it charges.

I was told that, as comfort access keyfobs have no rechargeable batteries (with a life span of ± 2 years), sliding a CA keyfob inside the keyfob slot will be to no avail.

This was also confirmed elsewhere:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=247058
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=115935

"Your SA is wrong. The CA fobs have a replaceable and non-rechargeable battery. Your car will give you an alert when the battery is low. Putting it in the slot does nothing except satisfy some perverse fantasy...;-)
If you don't get the alert then your battery is fine."

"CA key fob does NOT recharge. No ifs, ands or buts, no exceptions, no caveats. It DOES NOT RECHARGE. Lots of SAs are wrong about this."

However, it might be that, if you slide the CA keyfob into the keyfob slot, your current profile info is updated/logged (settings such as seat and mirror position). But it will not recharge the unrechargable battery. That's probably the reason why your SA is recommending to slot it (or the spare CA keyfob) twice a year.

Pages 32, 40 and 41 of the BMW 128i/135i Owner's Manual 2013 (USA) (which also features in the Manuals sticky: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...82&postcount=1)

"Each remote control contains a rechargeable battery that is automatically recharged when it is in the ignition lock while the car is being driven. Use each remote control at least twice a year for longer road trips in order to maintain the batteries' charge status.
In cars with Comfort Access, the remote control contains a replaceable battery, refer to page 41"

"The remote control for Comfort Access contains a battery that will need to be replaced from time to time."

I recall the story of a forum fellow who experienced a weird gremlin with comfort access.
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=648490

I suggested to him to slide the CA keyfob into the keyfob slot as a trial and error test:
"So if I were you I would fit the malfunctioning key fob in the key slot and have a drive. Although it will not recharge, maybe it initializes, kickstarts or restores some functionality (like computers: sometimes they block for no clear reason and the easy way out is a simple reboot)."

And it indeed fully resolved the issue for him:
"Great advice! Issue resolved. Although the fob didn't work fully once I installed a new battery, all was fixed once I placed it in the key slot and started the car.
Apparently there is an initialization that happens when you plug it in. All of my programming returned and the lock/unlock function came back to life."

I was "almost" serious! Have been to Dubai, lived sometime in Cyprus, know well the south of Turkey; can only imagine how hot can it get where you live.

I bet most trendy exterior color in SA is white for all car brands and models!

And wouldn't it be cool to have overboost function of the A/C for the most unbearable moments

After tinting my car all around with a high heat resistant Vkool, comfort access doesnt actually work, and the key range to open the door is dramatically reduced, its that bad. I need to hold and pull the door handle twice for the car to recognize that im trying to open the door.

So yeah its true.
