all this leisure time has led me to over research this topic and to over analyze everything. and unfortunately my not-so-busy night led me to run into this:

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...highlight=km11

and this:

and this:

I think I might have fallen in love with these Sport Edition KM11 wheels. It's actually the first 17" wheels I see on a 1er that I think look good. But buying this set for the winter would actually imply that I have to sell my OEM 264 wheels (because I absolutely want VMRs for next spring), and that would break my heart

I mean.... is the snow/slush/ice performance I'm going to have with 17" wheels (I'd go for 215/45 tires) really going to be that much better than 225/40 winter tires on my OEM 18" 264-style wheels? Am I going to lose a lot on the dry? Am I past the quota for questions? lol...

The more I research the more I hate myself. I'm making a move on Sunday regardless... just sucks that I'm getting more confused rather than more clear about my decision

Hate to confuse you further but that wheel design is terrible for winter weather. Those wheels have large open areas that will allow much more snow and ice to accumulate on the inside of the wheel which will throw the balance off and make for a VERY bumpy ride to work. The less open space the better for winter wheels.

Something like this is better for winter (it's also my setup):

yeah I considered the ASA GT2's but I don't like their design very much. If these Sport Edition KM11 work poorly, then you're saying that the OEM 264 style wheels that I'm planning on using will also run into the same problems? They're also 5-spoke..

The decision i need to make is OEM 264 style 18" vs KM11 17" I guess.. I don't like any other wheels and for the amount of snow I get I'm not willing to sacrifice too much on looks.

Plus I park my car in a covered garage so the accumulation of snow in the wheels will really only happen if it snows during the day or if there's too much snow on the ground

What about if weather alway goes below 0c? My location are in Toronto. Will the blizzark works better on dry road with negative celsius?

Alright so I FINALLY PLACED MY ORDER

Decided to go with the Dunlop Winter Sport 3D's 225/40/18 all around.

After reading way too many reviews I figured I'd be happy with either these or the Blizzaks and still couldn't make up my mind. However, since the Dunlops have been rated a slight bit higher and have substantially more reviews out there to back them up, I thought I'd would be a safer option.

Nevertheless, here's what it came down to... found a picture in this forum of a 1er sporting the Blizzak LM-60s and the tread design on that thing is SO DAMN UGLY. It looks like a tractor tire... do a search and you'll see what I mean.. Since I really value how my car looks it then made my choice easy.. Dunlops

I actually placed an order through tirerack on Monday at 2:01pm, and by Tuesday 2:45pm the tires were in my apartment. AMAZING speed and service, very satisfied. Thanks Gill!

Thank you all for all your input!

Yea, I ordered the exact same also yesterday (10/6) and am going to run them on my OEM rims. We get mainly cold, wet (sub-45F and into the 30s but above freezing - just cold enough to be sketchy), rainy winters with occasional snow and freezing rain (stay home days), so the Dunlops seemed best for here. I decided to use the original rims for winter tires and get new rims next spring.
Thanks, Gill, for the reviews and advice!
