Fantastic shots mineo77, can you share details on what film you used for your roof? Also, are those wheels gloss black? It looks great in action.

I picked up the wrap at a local sign shop, biggest thing is not to get carried away with thickness and avoid calendar vinyl cause it is only made to lay flat and not over bends

Those are my Breyton GTS-R all black. I actually have a new track set up:
Bretyon GTS-R grey wrapped with Toyo-R888
Swift spring conversion
Vorshlag camber plates
Wavetrac LSD

Many of you know of our BMW E82 135i daily driver that sees some track duty, but here are some pics from various West Coast tracks -

They're 245/40/17 front and back on 8.5" wheels. They rub a little in the front but that didn't cause any problems.

The tires/wheels worked great (they're Star Specs). Going to 17" save me a couple bucks, and are lighter so actually were a performance gain as well. I definitely liked the OZ wheels. I looked for the lightest wheel Tire Rack sold, and they worked well.

So refreshing to see pics from a track that isn't just a strait line.

I'm looking to do a few HPDE in my BMW, (first time in the Bimmer) and was wondering what all yall recommend before hitting the track. I was just planning on doing brake pads and the BMW performance power kit. I'm more interested in the kit for the extra cooling and not voiding my warranty.

I'm not interested in any serious modifications like coil overs or serious after market gear. Maybe a front sway as well?

My primary concern is the brakes and the engine over heating.

The last time I was at the track I was in a very different car, see below, and it'll be interesting to switch driver wheels and add 150hp to the mix. The NSX is kind of a prize photo, I was able to pass him on the turns at the back of the track at Motor Sports ranch. There are 3 turns after a carousel that if you hit just right become one sweeping turn. As soon as I exited I was able to fly by him on the inside.

RSX was mine, is250 was mothers husbands, the Mini was my mothers.

/end glory story

My lowly RSX hangin with the big boys

Unfortunately this is one of the best 'action' shots of my car.

Just thought the Pantera and Porsche were cool.

^^^I know that you will take that curve in the second picture on a completely different line if you go to that track with your 1er (a little wider before the turn-in...middle of track methinks)....get decent summer tires, you don't need the power package as you will still be faster than you think. I ran Road Atlanta/Roebling Road in Valet mode with BMCCCA and PCA and I was still passing people esp. if you are in Green/Blue group. I would suggest some mild suspension changes but if you are only going a couple of times a year then mainly the tires and possibly brake fluid....you shouldn't need the extra cooling. The times I ran at RA and RR temps were in the upper 80's to upper 90's and I never overheated (of course lifted hood after each session...).

Lol I'm surprised someone pointed that out so quick. This was from 5~ years ago... no idea what I was doing in that picture.

I'll probably only honestly take the 135 to the track once or twice. I was expecting to get a 1m but with my schedule lately I'm goign to wait until one hits the used market later this year. This is why I'm not willing to do much else in the way of suspension of performance.

Sounds like I'll drop the idea of the PPK, I couldn't care less about the extra power, was only interested in it for the cooling. I'll just be sure to pop my hood after each session.

I appreciate the advice, totally forgot to mention I'm swapping for some non-RFTs. Looks like I'll just throw some pads and fluid on with a sway bar and tires and call it a day.

LOL...I know what you were doing! My instructors called it the "Follow the leader syndrome"...instead of looking at the line your are supposed to take...you look at the guy in front of you and take his line! OR it was because you are driving a FWD car (I wouldn't know that line as I have never had one on a real track...Gran Turismo/Forza don't count I think ).
For your purposes that should be all you really need as far as upgrades. Just be aware that once you get really fast with the car it WILL start to understeer (push/slide towards the outside of the corner) a LOT. It is manageable of course but it will happen. You cant do much about it except to slow down more before the curve.

I'm certain I wasn't playing follow the leader... no really I wasn't

I'm going to take the generously offered, FWD driving line.

Seriously though, I don't play follow the leader. I've always had great instructors, and never had an issue trying to play tag. I am aware of their presence on the road, but I take my own line.

I do tend to get a little aggressive though, and managed to spin due to dropping wheels more than once. Something I'll have to avoid in the MUCH more powerful 135.

Also a bummer to hear about the under steer. Does anyone recommend changing the tire pressure a bit before hitting the track? Was thinking of upping the pressure a bit in the front and lowering it a tad in the back. Maybe try the opposite of BMW's recommended pressure and adjust a PSI up or down from there?
