It's not a 135 so why would 135 even be in the name?

Isn't it even using a different engine?

I'm going to go with M Coupe.

Same engine (N55), only it will have 2 turbos, instead of one (according to Scott26). It will be a one series, with modification of the same engine. So it could still have 135 in the name, much the same as the original M535i had the numbers in its name, when introduced in 1984, before the E30 M3.

IMO its not the same engine if they're redesigning/adding key elements. That's like saying GM's LS motors are all the same even they go way back a very long time.

If ///M Turbo is on the badge then, ///M tii probably won't be bad as someone mentioned what tii stands for. Especially, if the new 1er will have a 120 tii badge, then ///M tii can goes on forever.... so to speak.

If it's going the direction of ///M2002 - then it really needs to become ///M2979 as that's the displacement of the current car. It might as well be ///M 2979 tii which there's no way they are gonig to do.

After seeing X6///M badge the other day, I guess 1///M doesn't look that bad at all.

Since it looks like all future M cars will adopt forced induction why not start a new badge system now with the intro of the 1 series and call it the 1///Mtii

Then future M cars could go like so

3///Mtii
5///Mtii
6///Mtii
x1///Mtii
x3///Mtii
x5///Mtii
x6///Mtii

B4 ///M
B4 ///M
B6 ///M
B7 ///M
X1 ///M
X3 ///M
X5 ///M
X6 ///M

Wow!!!Those are long..lol..

My guess would be much simpler, and more obvious. The new 1 series M, will be just that. It will be introduced as the new 1 series M and sport an M badge on the bootlid and nothing more, with special badging (a la IS) on glove box 1sM. Obvious, simple, and everyone is happy. Now who wants to bet a coffee?

I just thought of something, I would imagine that the Scotch Tape company might have something to say about BMW using their 3M logo so I reckon BMW will have thought of this and considered the switch of the M badge to come after the number as a no-go, so I doubt we will see a 1M on the back either.

Heaven knows what they have come up with.

Why would you add a "B" to the 1 series, 3 series, etc? It doesn't make any sense. Some of those combinations, like B5, B6, and B7 are also chassis codes for the Audi A4.

Like Audi: A1, A3, A4, A5, A7, A8, Q3, Q5, Q7, R4, R8. A stands for Audi standard models, Q for Audi Quattro SUV models, so B for BMW standard models, and X for BMW xDrive SUV models.

I don't think BMW wants to be like Audi tho. I don't want BMW to be like them either.

It has nothing to do with Audi. On the contrary Audi got inspired by BMW model naming. See, also Mercedes is changing the names. No more CL, CLK or CLC, but S-Coupé, E-Coupé and C-Coupé. The diesel engines are called CDI, and now for gazoline engines they put GCI, they have 4-Matic like BMW xDrive, I would not be surprised if there will be 2-Matic like BMW sDrive. I could also see Audi going Duo (2WD).

Quite unlikely because they will then be stomping on Alpina's model names.
