Can u fit in the backseat?
I was pretty much set to get a 335i coupe, but now im thinking about a 135. Their are a limited amount of 135 compared to 335i, and I have not check-out the backseat for myself. Do you have people sit back their. thanks

I have had adults in my backseat. Just the front seat will then have less room. Manageable but not the most comfortable. It all depends on how often you will be transporting more than 2 people.

My brother is over 6ft, my dad is 5'11", with my dad sitting in the front, my brother fit in the backseat just fine. Neither of them said they were uncomfortable.
Edit: I should have mentioned, I'm 6'4", so no one with legs is allowed to sit behind me

It depends on how far back the front seats are and obviously the height of the adults in the back. I am 5'11 and my sister has sat behind me (she is 5'2) for 30 minute trips without too much of a problem.

We use the back seat of our vert often. Nobody over 6' though. I always offer to ride in back. Kind of fun with the top down. Went with the non-power seats because of it. Much faster getting in and out not having to wait for the power seats to move forward. Just pull the lever and the whole seats moves forward.

Back seats
I have yet to force an adult to sit back there, but have had a couple of my daughter's friends in back. I am 6' so an adult wouldn't fit behind me and I assume one adult can sit behind the passenger seat if they are not too tall and if the passenger up front is not too tall either. I can live with this b/c my older daughter has her own car so I only have to tote my younger daughter plus friends occasionally. It is sooooooo worth the sacrifice of lost space versus the 3 series, but then again the 335 is no slouch

If you're worried about rear leg room for frequent passengers than neither coupe is a good choice. The 3 series coupes are only a bit longer. We have 2 cars so there's no need to have 2 4-doors.

I'm 6'2" with a 34 inch inseam and I have had adults behind me but I do it rarely. My 128i convertible has a manual transmission. My seat has to be a little further forward than normal but I can do it. My 5'9" daughter fits behind my 6'4" son. He is further forward than normal but they can and have traveled with me this way and it isn't bad. But for a long trip I would use my SUV.
I can also drive with my seat all the way back but I do not. I sit more vertically than my kids too. Back seat space in the 1 depends on how the front seat person positions their seat. If you want to make the back seat unlivable you can. But you don't need to. Jim

It's amazing how BMW creates space in a seemingly "small" interior. As others have said, the driver and front passenger make a big difference in who can fit in the back. I wouldn't want to take a 2+ hour ride back there, but for commuting or going around town it's fine. People smaller than 6 feet and under 200lbs might be able to handle longer rides. It does depend on your needs though. If you need a rear seat often, the vert is out of the question in the 1 and 3. The coupe can be done if the regular rear passengers are smaller children. If you need to carry adults on a regular basis, a sedan is your answer. Last edited by RPM90; 07-03-2011 at 09:26 PM.. |

A quick release even for auto seats would be nice. I guess BMW didn't bother as they figured most 1's won't be used for much back seat use, just guessing. It looks like the vert has good headroom with the top up, but the width looks pretty narrow. But the 3 vert is pretty narrow as well. The 1 and 3 are nearly the same in width in coupe, and vert. |

I've had 3 other people in the car. All over 6'2". It was not comfortable, but it was only a 5 minute ride to lunch.
I generally announce that I only have room for 1 adult. Children would fit find. You're looking at the wrong car for passengers. They're dead weight anyway. |

I had a full complement of 4 in the new convertible yesterday.
6'2, 6'3, 6'0, and 5'7. I had to set the seat a bit forward from normal but it was manageable. I was impressed. |

It's definitely hard if you have tall people in the front. I'm 6'3 and it's near impossible for me to fit someone comfortably behind me in my normal driving position. I can move my seat up obviously, but then I'm cramped.. so that's only good for short distances.
The 1er is really a 2+2, not a 4 seater.

Nobody has ever sat in the back seat of my 1er. I'm 6'2" and I think a 5 year old might be the only person comfortable behind me. I guess you could play around with the passenger side a little more, depending on the height of the person in the front seat.
