yea just think of the fuel pump as a maintanence item. you'll have to change it once or twice a year. it just sucks because they can go anytime.
i've had the long crank a few times now. maybe like 2secs long. and my car had a low fuel pressure code. but dealer tested the fuel pump and told me "everything is within spec"

Worked with an engineer from Honda in Ohio before. He doesn't buy first year vehicles, even Hondas and Acuras, so we early adopters are certainly going to find some things.

Really common problem. I suffer the same bug myself. I would recommend replacing the fuel pump twice a year like I do to mine.

So I just got the car back from the dealership for having the hard startup issue. They ended up replacing the fuel pump with a high pressure pump. Hopefully this takes care of all the fuel pump issues!! Other than that...I LOVE this car!!!!

the fuel pump isn't an early adopter thing - its being doing it since they started producing the n54 in 2006. i agree, i would never buy 1st year on an engine. that's just asking for trouble. but 2.5 years gives bmw plenty of time to get their shit together. oh wait, no it doesn't. i forget its bmw, not honda.

the car doesn't have "the fuel pump" - it has 2 components a low pressure fuel pump and a high pressure fuel pump. they replace your high pressure fuel pump with another high pressure fuel pump. they have been doing this since 2006 on this engine. i dunno if they keep changing the part or not, but the high pressure fuel pumps keep failing. some people are on their 3rd or 4th pump with this engine.

If they have to keep doing that on 3rd time on mine. I will make BMW buy my car back!! They had to do that for my 2004 330 that kept stalling sporadically when I come to a stop and idle. It was a six speed manual. They kept trying to fix it 4 times then I complained to Customer Relations and had them buy the car back.

What I meant by stalling is that the engine would cut off and you would have to restart it.

I have about 1500 on mine and now I get "hard starts" every time the car sites for more than a couple hours. Sometimes it doesnt even start and I have to press the button a couple of times. Sometimes it cranks for anywhere from 3-10 seconds before starting.
Car is amazing other than this so far. And this didnt happen until recently, worked perfect up until about a week ago. |

I've had this problem well since late April and when I've taken it in it starts up perfect even after days at the dealer. So today for lunch I try and go out and it takes 5sec to crank over and when it does the check engine lights up, So since I work 2min away from my dealer I dropped it off and hopefully they fine a solution with problem this time. I've told my SA many times that I thought it was the fuel pump but since it never acted up on them they just brushed me off. I also have that annoying pop coming from the passenger side dash, which I think is the suspension and there also looking into that. I really love my car but I just hate the 1st year bugs....

my 135 is experiencing this exact problem. also, when it starts, it will run really rough. if i kill it, then restart it, it sounds just fine. yesterday, i got a "service engine soon" light to come on as well as the yellow motor. i looked it up in the owner's manual and it said it had to do something with emissions. i am not sure exactly what is going on, but it seems like it is a fuel issue. i am taking it to the dealership tomorrow morning.

Any Starting Problems???
Out of nowhere, my 135 is occasionally taking longer to start than usual. I'll push the start button and the engine will turn over for twice as long as it normally would before it fires up.. What's up with that?? It's done it 3 or 4 times over the past couple of days. Could it be a fuel pump issue? I only have 3k mi on it. I'll be stopping by the ole bmw shop on Friday but I wanted to see what you guys thought..

Yesterday mine had a log start and 5 min. into that drive my 1 started sputtering real bad with no warnings on the dash. When I started the car the next time it took a long time to start and it vibrated really bad. A few seconds later the yellow engine poped up on the dash and "reduced power" was shown on the display. Car ran fine on the way home but with the power of an econobox.
Gosh, I wonder what the problem is? |

Mine was towed to BMW at noon yesterday and was done at 5:00. They knew right away it was the HPFP and had a few in stock. My tech. said it's the tenth or so they have replaced on 1/3/535's. He also mentioned that 4 mo. ago they had to send all the HPFP they had in stock back and they were replaced with updated units.
