Rear Subframe Bushings Question?

Hi, I recently acquired a CPO 2012 135I and I see that lot of the members here are replacing their RSFB with the M3 bushings. My questions is, since I bought the car used, how can I tell which bushings are mounted on the car by just looking at them? I don't want to buy the M3 bushings only to find out that they are already mounted in the car. Thanks!

i don't remember how exactly looks like fitted on the car, but i think you can remove one of the bolts with large washer and see which bushes type you have.

You can tell by looking. The stockers have quite a bit of airgap in them. The M3 version are solid rubber.

M3 on left, stock on right.

they are covered with large washer, so anyway, you need to remove one of the bolts

Thanks for the pictures, I'll try removing one of bolts to find out which bushing is mounted.

Hell for even easier you can go over a speed bump slowly and compare how close the front and rears recovery time is. That's how I judged the mod after installation. Pre-mod, the rear oscillated quite a bit more, but post mod the rears stabilize almost as fast as the fronts which are undamped.

Just did mine. The ride is firmer but not in a bad way. It's nice to have both ends of the car stop at the same time. The waddle that happens when one side goes over a recessed manhole cover is also gone. I think the rear still tends to sidestep slightly when going over a bump.

Congrats! Great mod, straight upgrade.

Second opinion: Having driven it for a while now there is one downside to this mod for daily drivers. Although the roads are good here, when you do get a bump you really feel it more than before and the body noise level of the vert is definitely up. So really a good news, bad news story that one should consider, particularly with convertibles. Perhaps there are recommended suspension mods that will make this more palatable.

Yes but absorbing bumps is the damper's job, and the 1 series as we all know, has pretty terrible dampers.
