What's the latest.....
HI folks - I haven't been on here for some months - new year, new job !!! So haven't been keeping across the HPFP issue. I've had a look back a few pages, and nothing seems to have changed much - is that correct?
Reason I ask is, my (still under warranty) N54 135 started intermittently "long cranking" a few weeks ago (not badly, but noticable). It was due for a regular service, which happened last week. All they did was upgrade the software, and give the scripted denial of the issue. Got the car back on Friday at 6pm. When I started it on Saturday morning - long crank ! It didn't do it again all weekend, so I'll see what happens over the next few days. As an aside, I also asked them to look at the elec windows occasionally "clunking" (sounds like they're hitting a "stopper") at the end of travel, both sides, and both up & down. Their solution to this was the software update - does that seem illogical to anyone else? I would have though it more likely to be the adjustment of the regulators. Anyone heard of this? Thanks in advance for your feedback |

Congratz on the new job!
Re: the HPFP - the incidents seems lower with the new pumps. I would find another dealer re the HPFP as I know most dealers are just fronting up to the issue and pump replaced without much question asked. So it is definitely unusal. Try resetting the windows as that usually solve the problem. I think you got a dud service consultant really. They should have reset it after the battery has been taken off. Courtesy of Andy M: This procedure will reset the windows limits so that when you open the door the window will drop the 1/4 inch. - Sit in the car, and put the key in position 1 (this is the first press for our cars without starting the car), so you have power to the windows. - Push and hold down the window switch, and keep it held down for 5 seconds after the window is all the way down. This re-sets the memory, telling the motor, in effect, “Remember where we are now? ” - Roll window back up (and hold until it is fully wind), and release switch. - Open door. Marvel at the downward motion of the window. Repeat on other side, if needed.

Thanks Sparoz.
You're right, the SA was a dud. She was all "by the book". Not sure how much actual experience or knowledge she had about the cars. Seemed to take an administrative approach, rather than a problem solving approach. I shalln't be going back to her. I'll give the window reset thingy a go. Pity SA lady didnt' know about it, and either do it or suggest it as a fix. Cheers, B. |

Someone on the forum may able to point you to a better dealer for services in the future.
My dealer always make sure at least one former SA was a mechanic for BMW.

Getting a new HPFP next Tuesday. Car finally started going into limp home mode immediately following startup - talk about a lumpy idle!
With my car, the software update delayed the inevitable by about 4-6 months. Hoping this will be the end of it. Regards Paul |

The long cranks are continuing, in spite of the software update. It also didn't fix the windows hitting the "stops". So all in all, the only difference I can detect from the software update, is the sound when the car is unlocked, similar to priming a pump. I have no idea whether that what it actually is, but that's what it sounds like to me.
On a different note, neither the aux power in the boot, nor the socket under the arm rest are working since the car was serviced and software upgraded. Anyone seen this before? Are they on the same fuse? I'm trying to find an explanation or diagnosis, before I go digging around the fuses. I don't have hands and arms like a 3 year old, and I don't have a 3 year old handy to do it for me. |

What's the latest ..... (Updated)
Long Cranks continued. It's back with the dealer getting a new HFPF - hopefully that'll fix it. Pick up tomorrow (Saturday)
Aux power issue was the fuse - according to the dealer, it's a common fuse to blow, but only in some individual cars, not a particular model, year, trans.... I had a wheel delaminate (paint started to come of). BMW agreed to repair it. I hope they do a good job of it. I'm sure getting my money's worth out of the warranty with this car. I've never had one have so many issues. Just shows what an awesome car it is, in spite of all the issues, I still love it, and still love driving it. |
