Front License plate removal
Hi everyone,
I'm looking to purchase a used 135i. Are the front plates screwed into the bumper? I would like a clean look with no plates on the front. If I had to remove it, would there be holes on the bumper? Thanks! |

the answer to the question is yes.. if the prior owner installed the bracket for a plate then there will be 2 screw holes directly in the face of the front bumper cover.
the bracket is mounted with 2) 1 1/4" coarse screws about 7 or 8 inches apart. there is no real way to make it pretty once the racket is removed.... sorry for the bad news.

yeah ouch sorry you're out of luck if you don't go to a bodyshop.
i could never drill holes into a vehicle for some damn plate. if i HAD to put a front plate on it i would zip tie or double stick tape.

Removed the front plate braket on my CPO 1-er and there were actually three screw holes. Apparently, the dealer used a screw that was too long to mount the actual plate On top of that, there is an outline of the plate bracket where it touched the bumper. I figured a clay bar would take care of it, which it mostly did, but you can still see the markings up close. Also, the bumper plastic is slightly distorted where the screw holes are so. I'm thinking a quality respray is in order after the winter, but it doesn't look too bad right now. Of course, my car is AW so the holes and markings are much more noticeable than they would be on say a black car.

I had the same problem with the front license plate. In Texas we are suppose to have a front plate mounted but I still didnt like the big plastic bracket it was on so I decided to move it to the tow hitch with the RHO-Plate. I then capped the drilled holes with bumperplugs. got em from bumperplugs.com I like them...wish there werent holes in the first place but oh well.

Mine had 4 holes in the bumper when I removed it. You would think a high end auto dealer would have a clue as to how not to damage your bumper...especially when you asked them NOT to install the bracket in the first place! I just made the best of a bad situation and did what I could with the thing. I have actually grown fond of it....well not really.
