PFC01 install

Are the PCF01 pads designed without the OEM type clips used to secure the pads in the caliper? Seems like they would rattle and shift a lot. I've been using Hawk DTC70 and they have the clips.

Very few real race pads have the clips. Brakes work fine without them.

They do chatter a bit due to the lack of clips. Then the insanely loud freight train sound when applying the brakes makes the chattering seem like nothing. The 01's are definetly track only.

I've run them when driving to/from the track and on a couple of One Laps of America. The occassional shrieking does get lot of attention!

The Hawk DTC70's shriek also when cold. The low noise technique for me is to brake late and hard, then finish with the hand brake. But my last set of Hawk pads destroyed the finish of my stock wheels when I used them at a wet track event. Brake dust was baked into the paint. I want to try another compound.

no issues with pfc01 brake dust baking in the wheels...but i normally clean the wheels after the event.

they do rattle a whole lot but the braking performance is awesome!

Do people just not like or use Carbotech's? I've found they are pretty easy on the rotors and supply really good stopping ability. And they seem to last.

I should have let you test them out at TWS a couple weeks ago Phillip. It didnt even cross my mind. Sorry about that.

I used Carbotech for many years on my M Coupe -- everything from XP-9 to XP-16.

Good pads, but the PFC pads are better. FWIW, my PFC "stock" is now comprised of PFC-01 pads and the new PFC-08 pads (succeeding PFC-06).

Never run them, but the the DTC60/70 pads have a good reputation.

I've used dtc70 obviously and they perform really well. But the brake dust ruined the finish on my wheels. Combination of hot wheels, wet track conditions and I let the wheels sit for almost a week before I attempted to clean them. My mistake.

What did you think of the 08 pads? I used them last month and wasn't very impressed. They seemed to take a lot more effort to get them to work than the 06s. As in standing on the brake pedal to get the amount of braking needed. This is at a track which is extremely hard on pads so it wasn't that the weren't warmed up. Switched to a set of 06s the second day and car felt good again.

I don't know if they really last longer than the 06s as we had a catch tank that spewed oil all over the front left rotor. Cracked the rotor and ruined the pad. Admittedly the right front pad still looked like it had some life left after 12 hrs.

Will run the PFC-08s for the first time this weekend at VIR.

Have you run the PFC-06 pads and, if so, how do they compare?

Sorry 'bout the cracked rotor.

Dam it, I meant 06s pads (not 01s). I changed what I wrote. Yes we've been using the 06s pads for a couple years now and love them. They seem about equivalent to 01s but last WAY longer.

Everything I wrote above was supposed to be in comparison to the 06 pads. Our race car only weighs about 2000 lbs though so will be interesting to see what you think on a heavier car. The biggest thing for me was having to stand on the brake petal to get them to bite. I think they are probably brake as strong as the 06s but the amount of effort it took to get them to do so was not fun at all. They possibly even last longer but as I said we f-ed up one side and that threw off comparisons.

Please report back after you run the 08s.

Try applying Rejex on your wheels.

Ran the PFC08 pads Fri-Sun at VIR. A worthy successor to the PFC06 -- maybe a bit more torque and wear seems comparable.

I'll be using them as my "regular" track pad.
