Request - Experience with "SmartTop" module
Any one have any experience with the smartTOP BMW 1 series (E88) module for one touch remote opening of the 1 series top?
Ease of installation and operating reliability would be appreciated. http://www.ebay.com/itm/150675355171...84.m1438.l2649 |

I have have no problems. I do not have comfort access so it is the only way to get the top up/down with the remote.
Installation was pretty easy. The biggest pain was getting the back seat off. You have to remove the tubes the headrests are in. That is the most frustrating part. It is not too bad once you understand how to take them out but it is not intuitive on how to remove them. Make sure you get a newer version. It is plug and play. The older one require some rewiring. |

I actually just installed this in my new (to me) E88 last Friday.
As was said it is very straightforward, the only annoyance was to get the read headrest mounting out. If you end up having issues, you can always check back here. It isn't difficult, just hard to see what you need to do until you're in there playing around. I also left a USB cable connected to the device and routed it around the right side, behind the trim, of the rear seat. I tucked it under the trim at the bottom, near the footwell so that I can have access to programming via my laptop without tearing everything apart. It works well enough. I have had no problems with the device. Small annoyance: the folding mirror functionality (if applicable) is not intelligent. It only cycles the mirror positions when locked/unlocked. This means if you use the button in the car to change the mirror positions, they will be cycled to the wrong position next time via the module. Everything else works exactly like I wanted.

Well, I haven't installed it because after an hour of fiddling with the tabs on the head rest socket I still can't seem to get the things unlatched with the special coat hanger tool!!!
